Stoughton is a town in Massachusetts that is located approximately 20 minutes south of Boston. It was officially founded in 1726 and named after William Stoughton, who was chief justice in the Salem Witch Trials. It's surrounding towns are Canton, Sharon, Brockton, Randolph, and Easton. The education system is pretty decent, with one public high school, 1 middle school, and 5 elementary schools. The music department at Stoughton High School is among the best in the area. The high school also competes in many sports, such as basketball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, hockey, golf, track, cross country, swimming and diving, volleyball, and many more in the Hockomock League.

Get in

By car

If you have a car, then just hop on 95 south until you hit exit 8, which is Sharon. After getting off the exit, you then stay straight for about 10 miles until you see a sign that will say “entering Stoughton”.

By plane

Logan Airport in Boston is only 25 minutes north of Stoughton. Cabs are available but can become pricey.

By Train

Stoughton has a MBTA commuter rail line that runs to South Station in Boston. The Providence/Stoughton line is the correct line to choose if looking up train times. All you have to do is visit the MBTA website to find the best schedule for you!

Get around

The easiest way to get around Stoughton is by car or bike. If you are only going a short distance then a bike is a reasonable form of transportation. However, if you plan to travel from one side of the town to the other it is approximately a 25 mile radius and would require a car or cab service.

The Stoughton Historical Society is an establishment that offers information to the town, state, schools, and individuals. It was established in 1895 and its purpose is to provide historical research and items for show to those who are interested. The society provides newsletters throughout the year to let the town know what types of exhibits and articles are being shown at certain times. They also have a book store which sells souvenirs, pamphlets, and other information on the town. The hours of operation are Tuesdays 10 am to 3 pm and Thursdays 6 pm to 8 pm or by appointment. Do

V & M Bowling, located on 590 Washington Street, offers private parties, cosmic bowling, birthday parties, and candlepin bowling. Pizza, snacks, soda and other items are also available. Cosmic bowling is offered on Friday’s from 4pm-11pm, Saturday’s 11am-11pm, and Sunday’s 11am-5pm. They are also opened for regular bowling on Monday-Thursday 11am10pm, however cosmic bowling is not offered at this time. If you plan to have a large amount of people, then make sure to call in advance to rent the entire alley out! You can call 781-344-3321 for any questions about the bowling alley or to make a reservation.

Gold’s Gym, which recently moved to its new location on 333 Tosca Drive in Stoughton, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for holidays. Gold’s Gym offers personal training, strength and nutrition programs, as well as classes such as yoga, pilates, zumba, and many more! The new gym has a track that overlooks the cardio area as well as a new basketball court. There is tons of brand new equipment and very fancy locker rooms. Both the women’s and men’s locker room have a steam room, sauna, showers, and plenty of changing space! 7 day passes are available for those looking to try out the gym for the first time. Ikea, located on 1 Ikea way is one of the top furniture stores in the world. They sell a variety of items needed for back to school, decorating a new home, or just a new touch to your household. There are always new sale promotions being held and an enormous selection to choose from. The store hours are Monday-Saturday 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday 10 am to 7 pm. Cobbs Corner Plaza is a semi-new shopping plaza located on Washington Street in Canton, Ma. The plaza features many stores and restaurants sucha as GAP/GAP kids, Ann Taylor Loft, The Shoe department, Olympia Sports, Marshalls, China Town, White's Bakery, Shaw's Supermarket, and many more.

Eat

Fast Food

If you are looking for some place quick and cheap your best bet is to stop at McDonald’s, Wendy's, Taco Bell or KFC, which are all conveniently located on Washington street; one of the main roads in Stoughton. These fast food places all have a drive thru if you happen to be in a hurry!

Townie Favorites

If you are looking for something a little nicer, with a moderate price range, restaurants such as Chuck and Cheese:House of pizza or Town Spa are available. These two restaurants all happen to specialize in pizza but are definitely not limited to that! And what a coincidence, they are also located on Washington Street.

Town Spa has a homey feeling, with its wait staff always willing and ready to help. If you're on the go, all you have to do is call 781-344-2030 and order your food to pick it up. It is approximately a twenty minute wait from when you call. Hamburgers, chicken fingers, French fries, soups, salads and more are also offered on the menu.

Chuck and Cheese: House of Pizza is a small, walk-in pizza shop that offers all types of salads, subs, wraps, and more. The atmosphere is similar to a fast food restaurant but the quality of the food is definitely a few notches up. The Greek salads are a popular item on the menu. Delivery is also available all 7 days of the week.

If you are looking for Chinese cuisine, Cheng Du is a family run business and has a comfortable environment to eat in. It recently reopened at a bigger, new location located on 657 Washington Street. There are many options amongst the menu. Take out or delivery is also an option. For delivery call (781) 341-9888.

Splurge

There aren’t many restaurants that have an expensive menu but the prices are a bit more costly than those listed above.

LaStoria is an Italian restaurant located on 577 Washington Street. The hours of business are Monday- Wednesday: 11:30am -9pm, Thursday/Friday- 11:30am-10pm, Saturday: 4pm-10pm, and Sunday: 4pm-9pm. Good quality food, however, the customer service is known to be low quality.

Nocera’s Restaurant also serves delicious Italian cuisine. Nocera’s is a classy yet low key place. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. Casual dress is recommended but certainly not enforced. Nocera’s is located on 1165 Park Street, Route 27 in Stoughton. The hours of operation are Sunday: 12pm-9pm, Monday-Thursday: 11:15am-9pm, and Friday/Saturday: 11:15am-10pm. Holiday hours vary so just call in advance. The number is 781-341-2503.

Drink

X&O Lounge is a bar, a restaurant and can also hold special functions. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are the busiest nights of the week. The bar usually consists of college students who live at home or go to school nearby. However, it is not limited to that. Adults, whether they be couples or single parents go to enjoy the social scene. They have a variety of martini’s, cosmopolitans, and beer at the bar. The drink menu always has specials at a moderate pricing range. X&O’s is located on 217 Washington Street in Stoughton. To contact them call 781-344-1800. Kitchen hours are Sunday - Thursday: 11am - 10pm and Friday - Saturday: 11am - 11pm. The bar and lounge hours are Sunday - Saturday (7 days): open at 11am and Thursday, Friday & Saturday: open until 1am.

Sleep

The Stoughton Motel is a clean, quiet, and reasonably priced place to stay in the area. It is a small family owned business and their prices are on the lower end. A room with one full size bed comes out to $59.99 a night and a room with two full size beds and a king size bed comes out to $69.99. Cable television and phones are provided in every room. Children are free of charge, as well and it is a non smoking environment. Hours of operation are 7 am until 10 pm, seven days a week. The motel is located on 1919 Washington Street in Stoughton. Go next

Boston, only a mere 20 minutes north of Stoughton. Newbury Street is a beautiful, classy area to shop or even just walk around. There is so much to do in Boston with things such as museums, walking around areas like Boston Common, Fanuiel Hall, Quincy Market, duck tours in Copley Square, and many parks and sight seeing as well.

Providence, only about a half hour drive from Stoughton is a busy city in Rhode Island that has a lot to offer. The Providence Place Mall is one of the big attractions with a variety of clothing stores and food options available. Thayer Street, located on the east side of Providence is also a great place for shopping and a nice area to just walk around. Stores such as Urban Outfitters and City Sports are among the popular shopping places.
