Sweetwater is a city on the Northern Edwards Plateau of Texas.

Get in

Most travellers will drive via I-20 from either the Dallas direction or from El Paso. US-84 from Lubbock hits I-20 about 3 miles west.

Get around

See

  • Air turbines. Hundreds of air turbines. The county for which Sweetwater is the seat is one of the world's top producers of energy from wind power. The city is sometimes referred to as the "Wind Turbine Capital of Texas."

Do

  • Sweetwater Jaycee's Rattlesnake Roundup. This unique event, held annually in early March, centers around the region's most dangerous reptile, with a range of wacky diversions such as a guided snake hunt, a cook-off and rattlesnake-eating contest, a beard contest, a "Miss Snakecharmer" beauty pageant, and an evening dance.

Buy

Eat

Most of the restaurants in town are either on the access road to I-20, or along Broadway street. Aside from the many chain fast food restaurants, there are not a great many options.

  • Tita's Mexican Restaurant, 710 E Broadway St, +1 325 235-9059. A favorite with local workers.

Drink

  • Azteca Bar and Grill.

Sleep

  • La Quinta Inn, 500 NW Georgia Ave, +1 325 236-6887. Better than average complimentary breakfast. Pets are allowed but there is a stiff $40 charge.
