Article name[edit]

Assuming for a moment that this article is more than just an article about a private train..

Across Australia with the Ghan - just sounds very odd to me. The Indian Pacific goes "across" Australia. If you told me you had travelled across Australia, I would be very surprised if you told me you went from Darwin to Adelaide, the same as if you told me you went "across" America, I would be surprised if you told me you had travelled from Buffalo to Miami. --(WT-en) inas 17:07, 4 November 2009 (EST)

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about what to call this, and whether the scope should be expanded to continuing onward from Adelaide either east or west (in which case it would be "Across Australia by train"). For time being, maybe just plain ol' "The Ghan" might be better. (WT-en) Jpatokal 21:21, 4 November 2009 (EST)
I much prefer either "Across Australia by train", covering both, or even "Long distance rail travel in Australia", which could also include the Westlander, Spirit of the Outback etc, which are other similar (and substantially cheaper) train journeys. Most of what you could say about the Ghan is going to be equally applicable to the Indian Pacific as well, except for the itinerary. And, I think the Ghan article is going to stretch very thin with itinerary info. It is a great train trip, but with the exception really of Katherine or Alice you need a great deal of enthusiasm to get off anywhere else. The prospect of taking a break in Kulgera or Marla is really just silly, and shouldn't be encouraged. Hmmm.. I'm happy to add bits, whatever you decide.. --(WT-en) inas 23:08, 4 November 2009 (EST)
