Talk:Airline consolidators

A paper ticket may show a fare much higher than what you actually paid, and not the airline's cheapest fare (or fare class in coach). This is to your advantage -- in case of overbooking you'll be more protected from getting "bumped."

Err, huh? Paper tickets practically always say the full price, this has nothing whatsoever to do with bumping. Involuntarily denied boarding (IDB) is extremely rare these days, demand management systems do a pretty good job and the airlines ask for — and get — volunteers for bumps, because it's easy money if you're not in a hurry. I agree that getting involuntarily bumped is rare nowadays. However, most tickets from consolidators are in full-fare coach. The airline may sell (on its own) some discounted seats with lots of restrictions. If anyone gets bumped involuntarily, these people are the first to go. Is this a useful article?[edit]

I have tried reading this article, looking for some way I could possible use this facility and have failed.

It hasn't been updated for a long while, and I don't actually see how it can be of any use to a traveler. It seems that if you can find an 'airline consolidator' then you may get cheaper tickets, but I just don't see where I can start. The descriptions also seems more like Wikipedia material.

Can anyone else see value in keeping this? Andrewssi2 (talk) 08:01, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've never heard of this concept before. Maybe airline consolidators are more common in e.g. the United States? ϒpsilon (talk) 08:27, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They used to be common 25 years ago. I don't know if they are now. Perhaps they might still be for people from certain foreign countries, like China, India, and Korea, who live in major US cities, but I don't know anyone who talks about them anymore. When I was very young, I heard about 'bucket shops' that see cheap tickets such as this. I also get the impression that this is not something people bother much with these days.

Happy to see this merged. I never really understood it... --Nick talk 13:01, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
