Untitled[edit]

As I understood it, the sentence about renting a car referred to going from an airport to a big city, not getting around in a big city, and should therefore be in Get in. -(WT-en) phma 07:18, 29 Feb 2004 (EST)

It talks about more than one aiport, so I thought the information about car rental was meant to talk about getting around the island (either between airports and cities, between cities). Perhaps I'm wrong. --(WT-en) Dawnview 11:41, 29 Feb 2004 (EST)
Never mind, I just looked at the original page in French, you're right. I'll go fix it. --(WT-en) Dawnview 11:42, 29 Feb 2004 (EST)

Over-regionified?[edit]

There are currently 10 cities on the island for which we have an article. Is there a reason we need to split this into the current Upper Corsica and South Corsica regions? Anything about the island as a whole can be said here, and those two department articles are empty container articles anyway, with nothing to merge, and even if they were written, I doubt there would be that many difference to highlight between the two halves of the island. Shouldn't we just put the city articles directly under here in the hierarchy and redirect the departement names here? Texugo (talk) 19:29, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just back from the island. I do believe splitting the article into two departments does not make sense. The Michelin guide I used splits it into nine areas (centered around Bastia, St. Florent, Calvi, Cargese, Corte, Ajaccio, Bonifacio, Porto Vecchio, and Aleria) most of which can be given their original names (for instance, the area aroung Calvi is Balagne or Balagna, depending on whether we want to use French or Corsican). I guess either a splitting like this would work, if we have enough details to add, or we can just leave the island as a single unit.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:23, 3 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regions[edit]

Any opposition to just redirecting the "regions" of Corsica here until further notice? Hobbitschuster (talk) 20:46, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Merge the cities that aren't mentioned here and redirect. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:50, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Corsican regions[edit]

Swept in from the pub

Apparently the topic of merging Corsica's regions into the main article was raised as early as 2014 with no conclusive result. If nobody objects, can I merge them in one week's time? Hobbitschuster (talk) 20:48, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How about tomorrow? I wouldn't wait more than about 24 hours. I can't see a good reason not to merge. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:49, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So I got no objections, I think I will just go ahead right now. Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:32, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In similar spirit, I propose:

1) taking Cap Corse & Nonza into a paragraph under Bastia: that area would always be visited as a day trip by road from Bastia

2) taking Propiano into a paragraph on ancient megaliths under Ajaccio, as those are the reason you'd be there

- both with cross-refs from adjacent towns Grahamsands (talk) 09:41, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Buses[edit]

It appears that inter-city bus services in Corsica have disintegrated, so train is the only direct option eg between Bastia & Ajaccio. Can this be confirmed, and is it worth a warning box? I'll invite the French site moderator to comment. Grahamsands (talk) 14:33, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This rather retro-looking website for a bus company is still live and claims to offer "regular bus routes serving the main villages and most beautiful beaches" from different towns on the island, but there is no indication whether the service is current. Rather ominously, the timetable page is "currently undergoing modification", which suggests that there may be no regular services anymore.
Then, I found this company, which does appear to still be operating regular bus routes, with current (dated) timetables readily accessible.
Bear in mind that I'm only working on what the websites (found through Google) say; I don't know Corsica and haven't been there. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:15, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, the above link doesn't run between Ajaccio and Bastia. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 16:56, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I see that Corsica Bus (unofficial) has recently updated its bus & train info, so the situation's not as bad as I feared. Early October I actually saw buses and trains running on the island; but a public transport company that doesn't publish timetables is raising a red flag about its competence and survival. I'll encourage the Corsica Bus author to contribute to Wikivoyage. Grahamsands (talk) 18:58, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good idea. Companies without timetables are definitely suspicious. By the way, I wanted to thank you for the work you've been doing on this article. There aren't many Wikivoyagers working on French regions, and the additions you're making are top notch, and definitely adding value to our coverage of the island. ThunderingTyphoons!
