Merge?[edit]

What does "exotic" mean? The lede says "Some famous and popular animal species can only be seen or interacted with in a few places" but that doesn't really entail "exotic". From a naturalist's perspective, "exotic" refers to any wild animal that is well outside its native habitat, as an invasive or introduced species (e.g. ring-necked parakeets in London - interesting, perhaps, but certainly out of scope for this article). From my European perspective, common animals that are found in the average North American residential neighbourhood like raccoons or chipmunks certainly seem exotic, but again wouldn't qualify for this article. And don't forget that this is a world where the most unlikely of "exotic"-seeming animals live in densely populated cities, and so are part of everyday life for millions of people (e.g. penguins in Cape Town, monitor lizards in Jakarta, coyotes and whales in New York City).

So the focus of this article is unclear and subjective, and its content could easily fit into any of our existing wildlife / zoo articles. I propose that we do exactly that, and redirect this to Animals. —The preceding comment was added by ThunderingTyphoons! (talkcontribs)

I think we first have to specify *which* article(s) the content should be moved to. Which do you propose? Ar2332 (talk) 06:25, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The general text should probably be merged into Animals, while the species should be handled in the Wildlife article of the area where they are endemic. There is no Wildlife in the Oceans (for the manatees, sea turtles, sharks and whales) or Wildlife of the Southern Ocean (for penguins), but those could probably be created. --LPfi (talk) 08:58, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I probably should have mentioned that Animals is a disambiguation page, not an article. The idea is as LPfi states, merging the species info into the individual "Wildlife in (region)" articles that we have, and creating new ones where necessary. I don't think the rest of the article's content, such as it is, is worth merging anywhere.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:11, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the suggestion of merging to the wildlife region articles. Maybe the article for manatees, sharks, etc. could be called Marine life. Polar bears could be moved to Arctic. But what about penguins? Would Wildlife of the Southern Ocean be able to accumulate enough content to make sense as an article? —Granger (talk · contribs) 12:45, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is certainly enough wildlife in the Southern Ocean for an article. An article need not be long, and I suppose a bigger problem is to choose among the material available (which is the reason I have been reluctant to contribute to the Eurasian wildlife article). --LPfi (talk) 13:31, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. Since Animals is a disambiguation page, maybe the Darwin quote and the definitions in "Locations" can be moved to Natural attractions. —Granger (talk · contribs) 12:14, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing no objections, I've started moving the content to other articles as discussed. —Granger (talk · contribs) 00:59, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done. See the new articles Marine life and Wildlife of the Southern Ocean, and feel free to expand them if possible. —Granger (talk · contribs) 02:36, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
