Needed?[edit]

Is this airport complex enough to require a separate page? The information present at the moment would easy fit within the Fort Lauderdale article. Powers (talk) 16:40, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about complexity, but I looked up the airport's page. Here are some statistics:
FLL is ranked 21st in the U.S. in total passenger traffic and 13th in domestic origin and destination passengers. There are more than 300 departure and 300 arrival flights a day. FLL offers nonstop service to more than 100 U.S. cities and flights to Canada, Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Latin America, and Europe. FLL averages 621 commercial flights per day on 30 airlines. There are also 125 private flights. Each day over 67,000 travelers pass through the four terminals at FLL.
So it's a major airport. But that doesn't prove it needs its own article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:03, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wellto put it into perspective, Tegel (one of the airports of Berlin) does not have an article, Hamburg airport does not have an article, but Munich airport does. As of course does Frankfurt airport. I don't know how they compare to FLL. But if it ranks 21st in total passenger traffic and that alone makes it deserve an article, there have to be 20 other articles on US airports... What serves our readers best? Hobbitschuster (talk) 12:34, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think the standard for airport articles is not only that they are busy but that they are complicated enough to merit a separate article. So there's perhaps as much art as science to the determination. However, I think we can all agree that an Outline airport article with no information whatsoever on how to get to, from or around the airport does not help or just barely helps the traveller. I don't suggest merging and redirecting this article, though; I'd like to see what the article looks like if the sections are all filled in to the extent reasonably possible before making up my mind. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:43, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand that perspective, but I disagree. Our standard is that we only create articles on subtopics when the information threatens to overwhelm the parent article. This being a wiki, it's easy to restore this page after merging if someone gets inspired and starts expounding upon FLL's virtues in the Fort Lauderdale article. Powers (talk) 01:28, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So you would merge and redirect now? I wouldn't oppose that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:56, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am in favor of merge and redirect for now. Should someone make a convincing case for this being its own article, we can always recreate it... Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:41, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's true. I won't stand in your way if you would like to merge and redirect now. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:20, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go ahead, than. Hobbitschuster (talk) 13:05, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
