vfd discussion[edit]

Don't know why the text for home exchange was removed and then redirected to hospitality exchange. Home exchange is not at all the same as hospitality exchange.

I've put back the text back and removed the redirect.

I think I agree, these should be two articles. (ps -- please sign in and sign your comments using ~~~~ thanks!) (WT-en) Majnoona 16:51, 26 February 2006 (EST)
Hmm, I'm not sure how to format this one, or how to deal with the external links. We really try to avoid long directories of external links, but in topics such as this they are sometime the 'point' of the article. Any suggestions for a template style? I'm also going to go ahead and include a "related" link to Hospitality Exchange since it may be of interest to folks looking for alternative accomidations. Note that this article was up on Project:Votes for deletion for nearly a month, so the redirect was done according to policy. Is there a significant difference between Home exchange and Hospitality exchange that warrants two separate articles? They seem similar enough topics that one article should suffice - the primary difference is whether or not someone is a guest in your house, or whether you borrow someone's house, right? -- (WT-en) Ryan 17:54, 26 February 2006 (EST)
Apologies for not signing in and signing comments. Still smowehat new to Wiki. Again, I would argue not to delete or redirect Home Exchange to Hospitality Exchange. My family and I are seasoned home exchangers but are not at all interested in hospitality exchanges. These 2 travel alternatives are directed at different audiences. Even though on the surface they may seem similar they are very very different and appeal to different people. Other terms for Home Exchange (primarily used by North Americans) are House Swap or Home Swap (primarily used by people in the UK/Australia). It may make sense to have a redirect from House Swap or Home Swap to Home Exchange. (WT-en) Tony 20:00, 27 February 2006 (EST)
  • Home exchange --I do not know enough about the practice to know whether it warrants an article for itself. Putting it up here for discussion --(WT-en) Ravikiran 01:35, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)
    • Redirect to Hospitality exchange, unless there is some significant difference between the two. -- (WT-en) Ryan 00:49, 20 Feb 2006 (EST)
    • This one reappeared after being redirected, so I'm putting it back here for discussion. -- (WT-en) Ryan 17:56, 26 February 2006 (EST)
    • Sorry, I didn't see the vfd message on this page. I'd say "keep" -- home exchange is a popular alternative to hotels, especially for families on extended vacations. It's a very different crowd than house swappers. There are different tips. warnings, resources... in fact, the only thing they have in common is that they're travel topics ;-) If they're "the same" than so is Discount airlines in Europe and Tips for Hitchhiking . • Vote to keep. Home exchange is totally different than hospitality exchange and a great, inexpensive way to travel someplace, live like a local by staying in a home rather than a hotel and save a lot of money. Terry 0600 28 February 2006

External links[edit]

The external links section of this article needs to be removed per Project:External links. The links, if appropriate, should be re-worked into the article. In addition, this article could use some splitting up into sections, IMHO. -- (WT-en) Ryan 19:47, 3 March 2006 (EST)

Home exchange website..[edit]

None of the information listed in the link descriptions appears reliable or useful. All appear to be added by the respective service providers. Are the links useful? If so, doesn't anybody see a value in keeping the associated text? This area of external links in travel topics seems like a grey one indeed. --(WT-en) inas 19:08, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

I think the topic has some use, and as an avid couchsurfer myself, I don't consider home exchange to be anywhere near the same ballpark. But maybe we should clean the list out, and keep and expand two or tree of the most worthy ones to establish a standard new listings can follow. Going through the links none of the organisations seems to be not for profit which is a real pity. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) Talk 20:19, 27 May 2009 (EDT)
The article just looks like a link directory. Horrible. It may have some worth, but I am struggling to see it.--(WT-en) Burmesedays 12:27, 22 March 2010 (EDT)
I'm thinking about either a block for all external links or another vfd discussion because imho it has no value. It's all thrid parties that generate revenues with their listing here and low value for the traveller. (WT-en) jan 12:30, 22 March 2010 (EDT)
Bump. We need to sort this out. And many other travel topics which are also little more than link farms. This should probably be discussed elsewhere, but why do we not apply the same external link guidelines to Travel Topics as we do to more regular content? --(WT-en) Burmesedays 22:42, 23 May 2010 (EDT)
I agree with you, so I plunged forward and deleted the links section. (WT-en) Ikan Kekek 03:38, 18 September 2011 (EDT)
