Place name[edit]
Is this place called Patra, or Patras? The article uses both names, apparently interchangably. The article also refers to a Wikipedia article spelt Patras. The map of Greece shows Patrai - is this the same place? What is the most common English name? -- (WT-en) Huttite 20:04, 22 Jul 2005 (EDT)
I come from Patra. This is a problem for us too, when we are talking with foreigners or have to fill in legal papers in English. The name of the city as we pronounce it in Greek, is Patra. Patrai is the ancient greek name.
When I was learning English, I was taught to call my city, Patras (for the English name).
In my passport is written as Patra (both in Greek and in English). It is confusing but it seems that all these different spellings apply. Probably more official name in English is Patras. Magda 22:25, 1 April 2006 87.202.55.189

- This is an awkward one. Patra seems to be a better anglicization of the Greek, but not the one that is used in English, so I guess we should go with Patras, the English corruption of the name. Ground Zero (talk) 02:20, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
