District proposal[edit]

I'm proposing to add district articles because there is a surprising amount of things to see and do in the city, and adding them all to this article would only complicate it and make it longer than it needs to be. There are, for instance, hundreds of restaurants in the city, and listing them all in the Amin article would make for a very long list. There are also many festivals, events, and activities that won't fit into a single article.--PerthScot (talk) 03:36, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As of now, there aren't many listings in any section. There may be hundreds of restaurants in Rockingham, but are they all worth listing? We only want a selection of the best. By "best", I don't mean just the most expensive, but the sort of places you'd be proud to take a friend visiting from out of town to, in different categories (i.e. best places for local cuisine, best seafood restaurants, best Indian, best Middle Eastern, best hangover breakfast, best burger place, best value for money places, best silver service fine dining etc...). We don't want, e.g. 20 Chinese restaurants, unless all 20 of them are certifiably amazing.
If I were you, I'd focus on adding listings to this article for now and allow it to grow naturally. It's shaping up nicely, and I think if you stick at it, it'll just keep getting better. When there are at least 20 quality listings in most sections, I'd be more open to districtification
However, I'm just one person, and others may be more open to your proposal now. It would help them if you could outline exactly how many districts you'd propose to make, what their names would be, and roughly how many listings you'd envisage for each.--ThunderingTyphoons! Yes, and also what the boundaries of the districts are, because you'd have to know that in order for maps to be made if a consensus forms behind districting. On the face of it, though, I agree with Thundering: Add content here. It can be moved to districts if it becomes unmanageable. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:01, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's not just restaurants, but also public events, parks, accomodation, ect. I'm not proposing to list everything for obvious reasons, but I think districting is the best option going forward. In terms of how district boundaries are decided, I though grouping suburbs together based on their character, like they do on the San Francisco article, is the best option. For example, Safety Bay and Shoalwater go together because they both front the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. That's my opinion. P.S. I can't design maps on this site, so I'll need support with that. --PerthScot (talk) 06:00, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You need to precisely describe the boundaries for someone to create a map. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:06, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The article is fairly long, but it isn't too long yet. Listings for places to eat, drink, shop and sleep are a key part of a travel guide, and this article doesn't list even one restaurant, pub, cafe, hotel or B&B. Not one. I think it is premature to be worrying about districtification. It is shaping up to be an excellent article, though, and I hope to see it expanded further.
