why capitalized?[edit]

It seems strange that the name is all capitals so I looked into it. It seems Wikipedia does the same: w:SOCCSKSARGEN

Looking at the talk page, it seems this is how the Philippines actually does spell some names. Andrewssi2 (talk) 05:11, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Subdivisions[edit]

This article is rather short and contains very little info; is there any good reason for it to have a handful of redlinking "subdivisions"? Hobbitschuster (talk) 23:02, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly not, at this time. If no-one objects within 24 hours, please delete that section, or you could do it sooner, as it's easy to revert such deletions if anyone has a strong argument against it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:17, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead, lest I forget it. Hobbitschuster (talk) 23:47, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Decapitalize[edit]

Wikipedia doesn't have SOCCSKSARGEN in capital so why do we still have it in caps? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:23, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

They used to, and here are the first few words of w:Soccsksargen:
"Soccsksargen (officially styled in uppercase"
I'm not seeing why we should follow them on this. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:05, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it only says it's styled as Soccsksargen, and not actually how it is. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 07:36, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what you're saying. Could you explain that a little more? Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:30, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A parallel case is Mimaropa which neither we nor WP capitalise in the article title but w:Mimaropa says "usually capitalized in official government documents". Both are artificial names created from the names of component regions.
I'd say move it to Soccksargen, with a redirect. Pashley (talk) 15:59, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:47, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I vote for title case. Wikivoyage isn't subject to government pronouncements when it comes to naming. Nelson Ricardo 2500 (talk) 21:04, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We're subject to which spelling is most often used in English. Shouldn't our standard on capitalization of place names be the same? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:10, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that seems to be what Wikivoyage:Naming conventions says, but the Capitalization section doesn't cover this anomalous situation. Nelson Ricardo 2500 (talk) 21:18, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It seems pretty logical for naming conventions to override the general guidelines on capitalization. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:31, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Common use in English actually doesn't help us here: sources seem to use Soccsksargen and SOCCSKSARGEN, often interchangeably, and even SoCCSKSarGen (that one is going to cause me to wake up at night screaming, I'm sure). Government sites seem to use Region XII, or Region 12. For my part, I would go with Soccsksargen for readability. Ground Zero (talk) 01:37, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If no one use is especially common, then I agree that Wikivoyage's default capitalization practices should take over. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:11, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Ground Zero (talk) 19:37, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
