There are currently three and our general policy is not to use photos of businesses unless they are useful as landmarks. Personally, I'd delete two of these (Hyatt & Les Suites) without a second thought but someone took the trouble to insert them so it seems better to ask. I'm not sure about the Metropole, but I'd be inclined to keep it since it is at least an interesting-looking building. Other opinions? Pashley (talk) 18:40, 9 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that's the precise meaning of the policy. I don't think the point is their usefulness as landmarks, but whether they're attractions in themselves. And in this case, I consider all 3 buildings at least somewhat interesting to look at, so I would suggest keeping all 3 photos in the guide. However, if a decision is made to delete any of the photos, I'd delete the Hyatt first, then Les Suites, but definitely not the Metropole. Look at the description, which seems pretty accurate to me: "This splendid 1930 Art Deco hotel..."
I put them there because I thought it might make that section of the article more readable by having some pictures of these hotels. I wasn't aware that there was this rule, and I understand it, but still ... why have these long walls o' text? It's more a guideline than a rule. You can have a look at the relevant section of the don't tout page. If we want more hotel images, the Peace Hotel is another neighborhood landmark. I'd be in favour of adding the Peace Hotel in this article or the Park in the Jing'An article; they are pretty & serve as landmarks. I wonder about the Bund Center since it is distinctive and tall enough to be visible quite a ways off. I've used that as a landmark myself. Pashley (talk) 01:12, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose that would work. As for the Les Suites Orient ... which, full disclosure, I stayed at, I realize it's not architecturally interesting but it is about the only other hotel right on the Bund besides the Peace. Daniel Case (talk) 15:22, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
