External links[edit]

The following links were removed from the article per the External links - what not to link to guidelines.

  • If you play the game of Go (wei qi in Chinese), or you have friends who do, consider getting some Yunzi, China's best Go stones. They are quite different from Japanese stones and much more affordable. See the Go Wiki Sensei's Library page http://senseis.hexdust.net/?Yunzi on these.

One other link was removed that isn't listed above, as it's on the spam blacklist.

I want to restore the last one. I don't think it violates policy. Sensei's Library is another Wiki; why not link there when they have good info too specialised for us? Presumably whoever deleted this would not want SL's links to us deleted. The only alternative I see is to link to the all-Chinese site of the vendor, not good in an English Wiki. Anyone else care to comment? (WT-en) Pashley 01:05, 9 January 2007 (EST)

No comment in months, so I restored it. (WT-en) Pashley 02:41, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

What's in a name?[edit]

Someone recently added a page titled Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and links to it here. I think that should just be "Honghe", or perhaps "Honghe Prefecture" since our policy is to use the commonest English name for titles. e.g. We have Guangxi not "Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region". There are a bunch of these; I think they should all be shortened. I'd already shortened several before it occurred to me to ask for comment first. (WT-en) Pashley 02:40, 26 April 2007 (EDT)

Map error?[edit]

The map in this article shows Deqin south of Shangrila. My memory of the area, Wikipedia & the OSM maps all say it is much further north, almost at the tip of Yunnan.

Also, could the two major hiking areas mentioned in Yunnan tourist trailTiger Leaping Gorge and Three Parallel Rivers National Park — be added to the map? Pashley (talk) 19:42, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Google Maps has (in addition to the city label) a label for Deqin Prefecture south of Shangrila, and since both labels say "Deqin" followed by Chinese characters, it's confusing. I've updated the map, though the Northwestern subregion is pretty crowded. (I'm also having trouble uploading the modified SVG.) Powers (talk) 01:00, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting it sorted! Texugo (talk) 01:26, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Cities" section[edit]

Up to 9 cities can be listed, per Wikivoyage:Avoid long lists. I just removed the non-alphabetical ones added at the end, but there is still one red-linked one.

Is the current list of 9 good, or should one of the other ones be substituted? Here was the longer list:

  • 1 Kunming - the provincial capital, nicknamed "Spring City"
  • 2 Dali - backpacker central, hippie's heaven; ancient walled city
  • 3 Lijiang - ancient town of Naxi Minority, an UNESCO World Heritage site
  • 4 Shangrila (formerly Zhongdian) - largely Tibetan, with a famous Buddhist monastery
  • 5 Deqin - largely Tibetan, at 3,500 meters, close to Meili Snow Mountain
  • 6 Jinghong - largest city in Xishuangbanna, tropical tourist area
  • 7 Ruili - border town, next to Myanmar
  • 8 Yuxi
  • 9 Wenshan Wenshan City on Wikipedia
  • 10 Qujing
  • Hoheng - the southernmost prefecture in Yunnan province. The local Hani Rice Terraces were listed as World Culture Heritage sites in 2016.
