Usage[edit]

Copy and paste the below wiki markup into a page and give values to as many of the parameters as you wish to use (empty parameters will be gracefully ignored via the template).

Set the first parameter to units = Metric if the table is using Metric units of measure (Celsius and centimeters) or to units = Imperial for Imperial units of measure (Fahrenheit and inches). Please use units of measure appropriate to the location the page describes (Imperial in USA but Metric almost everywhere else) per Project:Manual of Style.

Why this template[edit]

No need to fork the climate template simply to handle Metric or Imperial units of measure—a parameter can handle this, eg units = Metric or units = Imperial.

It will be easier to maintain a single climate template.

Please comment... ((WT-en) Sapphire, what reasons have I overlooked why forking may be better?) --(WT-en) Rogerhc 19:22, 24 May 2007 (EDT)

I have a few reasons as to why it'd be better to have forked templates:

  1. The other templates already work.
  2. I want to/can add the Forecast template to the Farhrenheit version, which would prevent people from attempting to use that option with the metric/celsius version. That means we could use the Fahrenheit template to provide the data it already does and a link to NOAA's forecast, but the forecast service doesn't work with locales in South Africa, Australia, or Italy where they use the metric/celsius measurements.
  3. Leaving the templates forked will permit us to get a rough measurement of how much climatic coverage we have for our US guides. An unforked template would not give us this benefit. -- (WT-en) Sapphire(Talk) • 02:47, 26 May 2007 (EDT)
Cool. That sounds like reason enough to fork the template. Thanks for explaining this. :-) --(WT-en) Rogerhc 02:56, 26 May 2007 (EDT)
I agree with the reason for a fork, but I hope that - like a good dinner fork - the tines are kept parallel: e.g. same look and feel. I also anticipate that we might have additional forks when/if additional forecast sources are found, so we might want to create a Template:ClimateEurope or Template:ClimateJapan someday. - (WT-en) Todd VerBeek 09:23, 27 May 2007 (EDT)
