About me, and my motivations[edit]
I'm a Kiwi, living in Montpellier. I travel quite a bit. In 2013 so far I've been to 10 countries which isn't entirely abnormal for the last three years. I'm often stuck between wanting to share everything I have to say about the countries, but not wanting to spam friends and family on facebook or email. So I started adding reviews on places like Trip Advisor, but then slowly fell out of favour with that as I realised how profit driven they are (really the pop ups drove me out). I have a blog which has been my outlet up till now, but I'd like to contribute a bit more to the sites that I use as I travel. So here I am!
My Travel Interests[edit]
When I go to a new country, there is a definite pattern to what I see and do. For example. I don't often visit temples or churches unless they're going to be very very cool. I don't know why, they just don't rock my boat. I always feel tired after visiting them even though I don't feel like I've done anything. I get the same feeling with Museums, except I quite like all the cool stuff in those.
Food[edit]
Food is a major focus of EVERY trip! And as such it actually has a big impact on what I think of the entire country. For example, Vietnam has possibly the best food out of any country I've been to so far. And I think Egypt probably had the worst. I'm sure amazing places exist in Egypt, but you would definitely need to do your research.
Adventure[edit]
I like out-doorsy adventure type activities. Think bungy jumping, balooning, kayaking, swimming, white water rafting, getting on a bicycle or motorbike, climbing big hills or even mountains if I have the time. So I always try to fit these type of things in whenever I can.
Trying to see the real side of the country[edit]
I find that if you take things a bit slower, you get to see a lot more immediately. For example, you can take a tuk tuk to Angkor wat, but if you take a bicycle and make your own way you see one hellava lot more even while you're on the bike, because you go past it slow enough to see it. I also like to hire cars rather than take busses/trains/planes. Sure, they're more expensive, but you can go anywhere you want. Whether that be smaller towns or beaches and walking tracks. Learning to drive on the other side of the road was terrifyingly fun. I recommend it.
