I'm a hard-core surface traveller who groans at the time wasted in airports and does not enjoy sitting in the cramped seating for the "cattle class" passenger. But with the near absence of passenger services across oceans, one must endure the metal tube with bad air and ho-hum food.

Railway travel is my first choice, or river boats. Otherwise buses, trucks, "bush taxi" and sometimes just walking the distance.
