Colors[edit]

I preferred the less bold colors for the discover section. Travel Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 09:24, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, nothing is set in stone. It was suggested earlier in the discussion, so worth giving it a shot. Personally, I like them, but more opinions should be sought. The old colours gave me the impression that we thought of an amazing new page design for the top, but no one had any good ideas for the bottom and left it in boring pale boxes with no pictures. Maybe there could be a compromise. Also, I've added a photo to the CotM, changed some text sizes and colours, reversed the alignment and added some more links. I felt the old layout felt very empty. Thoughts on that? JamesA >talk 09:39, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Thanks very much for having a play - I really appreciate it! I'm not completely sure about the red colour or the right alignment if I'm completely honest. Because the links reduce in length as they go down the box, it looks like we're attempting to create a pattern. As for the backgrounds, in a perfect world perhaps we could have images of generic travel things in the background of each, but given the issues with the pictures we've got, colours are perhaps the way forward!--Nicholasjf21 (talk) 11:11, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've used your suggestions and made some more changes to the alignment, and I agree it looks much better now. I also changed the red to the third colour in our logo, which is blue. It is much more subtle now. JamesA >talk 11:24, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That looks great now - I really like it! Is there any way we could make the 'Wikivoyage:Cleanup' text white rather than blue? Would this mean having to change the template? --Nicholasjf21 (talk) 18:41, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer the softer colors that we had before. These bright colors IMO takes away from the pictures which need to be primary. If we use clip art in the getting involved section it should be a drawing rather than a picture IMO. Travel Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
ALright, that's fine. It's just worth trying all the options. I still feel it looks out of place. While we don't want to take away from the photos, the bottom two sections are equally important and now that they've been pushed so far down the page, we should be drawing extra attention to them. Although it's easy to make the photo into a drawing with Wikivoyage:Cleanup, if we were to have the Cotm as something like New York City, it'd just look silly. You can't feature a clipart of the Statue of Liberty, can you? JamesA >talk 01:24, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think photos are fine in that box generally, just on this occasion with the current COTM I think a piece of clipart is probably best.--Nicholasjf21 (talk) 01:27, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I like the broom. We could also get a wikitan like logo but should be male rather than female to not upset anyone [1] Travel Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 01:50, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
