One question: Where are you getting your population figures for Kano city from? I cited a source for the figures I used. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:00, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ikan, I got my figures from Wikipedia —The preceding comment was added by Sadiqabba (talkcontribs)

Thanks for your reply. It's customary to sign talk pages on Wikivoyage (and Wikipedia) by typing 4 tildes (the ~ key) in a row at the end of your post.
I'm looking at w:Kano, and it seems like you misread that article:
Kano is a city in Nigeria and the capital of Kano State in Northern Nigeria, in the Sahelian geographic region south of the Sahara. Kano is the commercial nerve center of Northern Nigeria and is the third largest city in Nigeria after Lagos and Ibadan. According to the 2006 census, Kano is the most populous state in Nigeria, with about 9 million people. The Kano urban area covers 137 km2 and comprises six local government areas (LGAs) — Kano Municipal, Fagge, Dala, Gwale, Tarauni and Nasarawa — with a population of 2,163,225 at the 2006 Nigerian census. The metropolitan area covers 499 km2 and comprises eight LGAs — the six mentioned above plus Ungogo and Kumbotso — with a population of 2,828,861 at the 2006 Nigerian census.
According to the passage I just quoted, 9 million is for the state of Kano, not the city. I would suggest, in any case, that we revert to the 2016 estimate figures I used, as 2006 is 10 years ago. Do you agree? Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:20, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Ikan, I agree with you, though I am from Kano, I misunderstood the topic. Thanks for the correction Sadiqabba (talk) 09:35, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No problem! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:41, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Learn" section[edit]

Hello, Sadiqabba, and thanks for your continuing edits to the Kano article!

A word about the "Learn" section, though. Learn sections are optional in city articles, but are intended as the place to list places where a visitor could take or audit a course during a visit of 2 weeks or less. Maybe someone else will give a link to the place where that policy was decided on, as unfortunately I don't remember (to anyone who's reading and does know where that discussion is, can we put this in some more easily findable place?), but the upshot of the discussion was that a majority of participants didn't consider people who go somewhere for 4 years of university study a traveller, but instead someone who is at least temporarily living in a place they moved to.

There are other ways to cover institutions of learning, though. For example, if they host performances or lectures open to the public, they can be listed in "Do", or if they are particularly interesting or beautiful to look at, they can be listed in "See".

Please let me know if you have any questions. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:32, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
