Quite an impressive project you've started, as there are almost 200 recognized countries in the world, plus tens of country-like entities (Greenland, French Guiana, Hong Kong...). Happy writing, and if you plan to turn this into a mainspace article, I could help out at some point. :) --ϒpsilon (talk) 19:02, 6 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for noticing! I realize it's a big project, and I don't intend to be done any time soon. Yes, my plan is not to keep in userspace forever, but instead to develop it into a good gazetteer and then ask the community what they think of it becoming a mainspace article, somewhat similar to Destinations. So far I've done two countries and started on several others. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 19:20, 6 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for starting this endeavour! Just one thing. I believe Australia/Oceania was discovered by Europeans long after South America. Gizza (roam) 02:06, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@SelfieCity: Agree with the above, and one more minor correction - Algeria is in fact the biggest country in Africa, not just one of. ARR8 (talk) 02:11, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
This is a really good project! One correction on North America: w:Leif Erikson apparently was the first European to set foot on North America in 999, though apparently not quite the first to see the continent. Greenland's first Norse settlement was founded by his father, w:Erik the Red, though others had tried before him. So I think your point about European settlement on North America could be rephrased to state that while Columbus was far from the first European to set foot on or settle in North America, it was only starting with his voyages that there was an unbroken period of European settlement in the Americas. Also, while we're offering suggestions, I'd like to see some integration with the incredibly detailed WikiAtlas, ideally just in the form of a link on each entry (after all, that's what a gazetteer's for). I can whip up a quick template to generate the links if you agree and would like one. ARR8 (talk) 03:14, 7 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Continents

[edit]

When this moves into the mainspace eventually, the structure used in the gazetteers should probably align with our general breadcrumb structure in order to be consistent. Wikivoyage uses a seven-continent structure (Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, Oceania and Antarctica). Australia and New Zealand are placed with the Pacific Islands in Oceania which isn't the case here. Gizza (roam) 03:58, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I'll consider what I can do about this in the near future. Is there perhaps any way to have different headings than links in the menu? --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 04:02, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Moving into mainspace

[edit]

It's not nearly done, but the amount of work this requires means that, IMO, this should be in mainspace. Is everyone okay with me moving this into mainspace? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:48, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Swept in from the pub

I created this a while ago, but I really can't do all the work on my own, and I haven't done any in quite a while. I have laid out basics for formatting or whatever, and I wonder if there is some space it could be moved to where work can be done on it and, perhaps, it could be used as a way to navigate to country articles. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:44, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
