Redirect

I'd very much be in favor of converting this page into a soft redirect to meta:OTRS. It isn't specific to Wikivoyage, so I think we're much better off pointing to a source that is likely to be kept up-to-date rather than pulling Wikimedia-specific project pages into Wikivoyage. Is there some advantage to having it here as opposed to pointing elsewhere? If not, can we just point to meta? -- Ryan • (talk) • 03:07, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

I suppose I have no real objections to soft redirecting it, but bear in mind I wrote it with the purpose of documenting any future establishments of language-specific Wikivoyage queues if someone else proposes them. We also have no formal complaint system in place for OTRS directed requests. Also consider Wikivoyage:Copyleft#How should I ask for permission to use a forum reply on Wikivoyage? Vague replies to these messages are sometimes not adequate under CC-BY-SA and the OTRS volunteers would be better able to handle such permissions/donations. If there is information that is specific to Wikivoyage then a local page makes sense, but if we're just describing OTRS and listing current contacts then I'm not sure that there is any value to having a page here. Did you want to try to re-work it to be about Wikivoyage specific uses of OTRS? If not, I think the best option is to send readers to the authoritative source on meta. -- Ryan • (talk) • 03:27, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm thinking about having text donations re-routed to info@wikivoyage.org and media donations re-routed to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org so we can better tell our readers, at least as a local information page, about how to donate to Wikivoyage. The Wikivoyage:Copyleft policy page ought to be updated to accommodate the new system under WMF's OTRS permissions queues. Meta Wiki also leaves out information about privacy concerns and complaints about actions by OTRS agents, though I suppose I can ask someone to modify the document on Meta Wiki to reflect these concerns. For reference, we had a total of about 10 tickets to the Wikivoyage queue last year. But keep in mind that while we receive a lot of complaints on OTRS, we generally redirect a lot of them onwiki, because OTRS is not a way to bypass the procedures of a local wiki. --Rschen7754 07:57, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Meta RfCs on two new global groups

Hello all,

There are currently requests for comment open on meta to create two new global groups. The first is a group for members of the OTRS permissions queue, which would grant them autopatrolled rights on all wikis except those who opt-out. That proposal can be found at m:Requests for comment/Creation of a global OTRS-permissions user group. The second is a group for Wikimedia Commons admins and OTRS agents to view deleted file pages through the 'viewdeletedfile' right on all wikis except those who opt-out. We would like to hear what you think on both proposals. Both are in English; if you wanted to translate them into your native language that would also be appreciated.

It is possible for individual projects to opt-out, so that users in those groups do not have any additional rights on those projects. To do this please start a local discussion, and if there is consensus you can request to opt-out of either or both at m:Stewards' noticeboard.
