York is a region in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It consists of that portion of the former York County directly north of Toronto (excluding the six former boroughs of metropolitan Toronto itself). This area includes various north-of-Toronto suburbs in telephone area code +1-905.

The main airport serving York Region is Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), which is located just outside the Region's southwest border, in Mississauga. There are two small local airports in southeast York Region, Buttonville Airport (privately-owned, scheduled to close in 2015) and Markham Airport.

Get around

Use public transit. YRT operates frequent bus services and VIVA operates rapid transit with comfy buses up and down major thoroughfares in the region. The stops are spread out making for a quick ride. Think of an above-ground subway on wheels!
