Kapurthala is a small town in the state of Punjab in India.

The town is famous for Rail Coach Factory, which is a rail coach manufacturing unit of Indian Railway. It produces 1500 coaches every year.

Get in[edit]

There are frequent buses between Kapurthala and Jalandhar. Buses and taxis are also available from Amritsar, about 75km from Kapurthala, where the nearest airport is located.

Kapurthala is in the Jalandhar-Firozpur section of the Indian railway network.

  • Gurudwara Ber Sahib. It is here Guru Nanak Sahib entered the Bein rivulet and stayed three days in the water.

  • Mazar of Mir Nasir Ahmed. A pilgrimage site for Indian classical musicians.
  • 2 Panch Mandir. A temple, home of five small temples.
  • 3 Moorish Mosque. A replica of the Grand Mosque of Marrakech, commissioned by the last ruler of Kapurthala, Maharajah Jagatjit Singh to a French architect. Its construction was complete in 1930.   • 1 Kanjli Wetlands. Man-made Wetland that subsumes the Kanjli Lake. It was created in 1870 by constructing the headworks across the perennial Bien River, a tributary of the Beas River to provide irrigation facilities to the hinterland. The rich biodiversity of the wetland comprising aquatic, mesophytic and terrestrial flora and fauna including some important species of plants and animals was recognized internationally by the Ramsar Convention in 2002 by designating the Kanjli Lake in the List of Wetlands of International Importance.
