Port-Gentil is on Gabon's Coastal Plain.

Understand[edit]

Port-Gentil is Gabon's workhorse with offshore oil rigs and port activities humming around the city. Interestingly, Port-Gentil has no roadway connections with the rest of Gabon, and sits on a peninsula (island actually, if you consider that it is cut off from the mainland by the delta of the Ogooue River).

Get in[edit]

The connection with the rest of the world is maintained through * 1 Port-Gentil Airport. with transit to Libreville, and marine links, including a ferry service to Lambarene across the Ogooue River.

Get around[edit]

Taxis are available.

See[edit]

  • 1 Cathedrale Saint Louis, Rue de Révérend Père Bichet. a fairly majestic tropical cathedral framed by palm trees.

Do[edit]

  • 1 Beach Sogara (north of town).

Buy[edit]

Eat[edit]

  • 1 Planete Grill, Avenue de la Mosquée, +241 07570215. 18:30-23:00. Ribs, pizzas, burgers, etc. Loud music at times. Closed on Sundays.

Drink[edit]

  • 1 La Case. a good place for a drink on the beach

Sleep[edit]

Because of the oil and gas operations, lodging is kind of expensive here.
