Shei-pa National Park (雪霸國家公園) is the fifth national park of Taiwan.

This is a region of magnificent mountains, creek valleys, rare animals and plants.

History[edit]

The park was established in 1992 by the Government at the border of Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung Counties.

The mountainous areas in this area are cloudy and foggy, and the temperature is low. The average temperature in January is about 6.6 degrees, and the average temperature in July is about 14.9 degrees. The rainy season is from April to August every year, and the annual rainfall is about 3,152 mm, and up to 4,000 mm in some areas.

Visitor information[edit]

  • Wenshui Visitor Center (雪霸國家公園管理處). 100 Shueiweiping, Fuxing Village, Dahu Township, Miaoli County, is located in Dahu Township, Miaoli County, near the Taian Township. It is the headquarters of this national park. The Visitor Center is equipped with a display hall, audio-visual room and gift shop. There is the best place to understand anything of the park within a short time. The Visitor Center is open Tu-Su 09:00 to 16:30.

There are four recreation areas within the park.

Hsinchu County[edit]

  • Guanwu Recreation Area (觀霧遊憩區). This place is the only approach to climbing Dabajian Mountain (大霸尖山), one of Taiwan's Top 100 Mountains.

Miaoli County[edit]

  • Xuejian Recreation Area (雪見遊憩區), is set up on the northwest side of national Park. It is placed near the Taian Township of Miaoli County. Being the newest developed location in the park, its traffic conditions are often not good.

Taichung City[edit]

  • Wuling Recreation Area (Wuling Farm). The approach to climbing Xueshan (Snow Mountain, Syue Mountain, Xue Mountain, Hsuehshan, 雪山). At 3,886 meters, Xueshan is one of Taiwan's Top 100 Mountains and Taiwan's second highest mountain.

It is a national park, so you are unlikely to find bars, nightclubs or night markets there. Since there is no light pollution in Sheipa National Park, the starry sky at night is very beautiful, and watching the night view is a good experience!

Stay safe[edit]

There are dangers of rockfalls, collapses, and cliff falls. Therefore, you should pay attention to your own safety when climbing. It is recommended that tourists who want to climb the mountain should move in a group. Accompaniment is recommended, and the leader or guide must be well-trained.

The visitor centers of the national parks are equipped with simple first aid medicines. If you have minor injuries in the area, you can go to there to receive treatment. If your injuries are serious and cannot be treated, please call +886-37-272-917 to report to the national park management office. Management staff will assist and help you to go to the nearby hospitals for treatment.

Stay healthy[edit]

There is no local hospital in Sheipa National Park. If you get sick or injured while traveling there, you can only go to the nearby public health clinics or hospitals.
