Zlot Zimowy

Magalia (dyskusja) 12:50, 5 lis 2015 (CET)[odpowiedz]

Maps for Wikivoyage

Dear Wikivoyage community, I would like to update you on the progress with our Maps efforts, and make a small request.

Our maps service has been running without problems for many months. It is a stable and secure map tile platform, capable of much higher web traffic than our current labs OSM service, which is slow, unmaintained, and has crashed on numerous occasions. You may include new maps on every Wikivoyage page without causing any server overload problems.

Very soon we plan to roll out Kartographer extension to Wikivoyage. You can try it here. Kartographer supports many styles of marks, with icons and auto-numbering. Kartographer also has Visual Editor support.

While we are getting ready for the release of Kartographer, we are asking the community to help switch to this new maps tile service. The English and Russian Wikivoyage projects have already moved to this service (Here's an example - Albany). With the benefits we mentioned, we are asking projects to switch for one important reason. Right now, any visitor viewing a page that contains a map not hosted by the WMF sends information to a third-party (for example, Mapquest). This violates our privacy policy. Visitors may choose to switch to an external map, but they should be aware of that decision. For more information, please see the discussion below about this important topic at the English Wikivoyage.

The Wikimedia Maps service may not be perfect, but we think it is important to not compromise user's privacy by just visiting a page.

There are two places that need to change:

The new maps service will be further improved with the upcoming Kartographer extension. While we are not ready to deploy Kartographer just yet, we also ask to help review the extension ahead of time. Please help review Kartographer extension documentation and our demo, and see if it meets your needs, or if anything should be changed. Please leave us a note on the Kartographer extension talk page if you have any feedback.

Maps trial has began!

Mapa

We just enabled the new maps support for WikiVoyage. Please see (and help translate) documentation. This is a new functionality, it does not change any existing funcionality. This is a test version, and has many bugs, please do not use it for real pages yet. The goal of this release is for the community to experiment with the early release and steer our development efforts towards what you really need. If you have any requests, please create them here (login by clicking the MediaWiki button).

New features:

  • add maps to pages using <mapframe>
  • add map links to pages using <maplink>
  • add markers and polygons to maps using Visual Editor
  • edit geojson and see how it changes the map on each keystroke
  • add auto-numbered markers (either numbers or letters), and have multiple counters
  • have multiple "groups" of markers/polygons and showing them on the same map or on separate maps (e.g. all food and all drink maps and one combined map)
  • markers and polygons can be of any color
  • markers and polygons can be clicked and will show popups with wiki text and images
  • fast full screen popup maps

You can switch between wikitext and visual editing

Pomóż przetłumaczyć na Twój język

Hello,

Editors at this Wikivoyage have access to both the wikitext and visual editors. You can switch between the two systems in the middle of an edit. These images show where to find the button to do this:

I've asked the devs to turn on an option in Special:Preferences for all of the Wikivoyages. They will probably do this on Monday, 6 June 2016.

For people who use both editing systems, this preference setting will let you choose whether to have two tabs (how it works today) or just one. I like having two tabs, but many editors want just one, to always open their favorite editing system. They can use these buttons to temporarily switch to the other whenever they want. This option works well for most people. However, experience on other wikis shows that a few people who are used to two tabs usually get "stuck" in one and can't figure out how to switch to the other editing system. So please look for these icons the next time you open an article to edit; they're available to you today, and they'll help if anyone gets stuck next week.

Here are the three things that I want you to know about this:

  • If you haven't enabled the visual editor, then you already have just one "Edytuj" tab, and this change should not affect you.
  • If you have two editing tabs now ("Edytuj" and "Edytuj kod źródłowy"), then on Monday, you will only have one. (Don't worry!) As soon as the second editing tab disappears, the new prefs setting will appear. You can go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing, find the drop-down menu named "Editing mode", and choose whatever you want. (You won't see this option if you have the visual editor disabled.)
  • If you get stuck, remember that you can use those two buttons to switch to the other editing system.

There is more information about this feature at mw:VisualEditor/Single edit tab. I'll be around Monday when this happens, so please ping me if you encounter any unexpected problems.

By the way, for those of you who want to try out the visual editor, please remember it will be easier to add templates in the visual editor if you've added TemplateData information to their documentation pages.

The visual editor is coming to this wiki soon

Pomóż przetłumaczyć na Twój język. Dziękujemy!

Hello, Wikivoyagers!

The visual editor is coming to this Wikivoyage soon. The visual editor allows people to edit Wikivoyage articles as if they were using a typical word processor. The target date is 14 June 2016. After the deployment, everyone will automatically have the option to use either the visual editor or the current wikitext editor. For more information about how to use the visual editor, see mw:Help:VisualEditor/User guide.

Here's what the two editing systems look like:

Side by side screenshots, showing the visual appearance of both editing systems

You can use the visual editor right now. To turn it on, select "Funkcje eksperymentalne" in your preferences. Choose "VisualEditor" and click save. When it is enabled, press the "Edytuj" button to edit an article in the new software. When the visual editor is open, you can switch to the wikitext editor any time you want. Just click the [[ ]] icon in the toolbar, next to the "Save" button. Inside the wikitext editor, click the pencil icon () in the upper right corner to switch to the visual editor. If you prefer having two tabs, or if you want to change the editing system that opens first, go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing and choose your favorite option for the "Editing mode".

There is a short guide at mediawiki.org that has some tips about getting the best value out of the visual editor for your project.

Thank you, and happy editing! – Whatamidoing (WMF) (dyskusja) 07:48, 8 cze 2016 (CEST)[odpowiedz]

Compact Language Links enabled in this wiki today

Pomóż przetłumaczyć na Twój język

Screenshot of Compact Language Links interlanguage list

Compact Language Links has been available as a beta-feature on all Wikimedia wikis since 2014. With compact language links enabled, users are shown a much shorter list of languages on the interlanguage link section of an article (see image). Based on several factors, this shorter list of languages is expected to be more relevant for them and valuable for finding similar content in a language known to them. More information about compact language links can be found in the documentation.

From today onwards, compact language links has been enabled as the default listing of interlanguage links on this wiki. However, using the button at the bottom, you will be able to see a longer list of all the languages the article has been written in. The setting for this compact list can be changed by using the checkbox under User Preferences -> Appearance -> Languages

The compact language links feature has been tested extensively by the Wikimedia Language team, which developed it. However, in case there are any problems or other feedback please let us know on the project talk page. It is to be noted that on some wikis the presence of an existing older gadget that was used for a similar purpose may cause an interference for compact language list. We would like to bring this to the attention of the admins of this wiki. Full details are on this phabricator ticket (in English).

Due to the large scale enablement of this feature, we have had to use MassMessage for this announcement and as a result it is only written in English. We will really appreciate if this message can be translated for other users of this wiki. Thank you. This is the complete database dump / back up of WT in all 21 languages. This includes all pages in all namespaces. Download here. The file is compressed using 7zip it's 370 MB in size. XML's are plain text files that can be edited in Notepad. I also have a list of pages from WT that are missing here. I placed it on my userspace for reference. If there is interest in porting those pages I can generate a specific XML for that purpose. Acer (dyskusja)

Pierwszy cykl strategii ruchu Wikimedia 2017

Zgodnie z zapowiedzią sprzed dwóch dni - zaczynamy cykl 1 dyskusji strategicznej ruchu Wikimedia na lata 2017-2030.

Jedno, wielkie pytanie jakie zadajemy sobie w cyklu 1 brzmi:

Podsumowane i przekazane dalej zostaną wszystkie sensowne opinie i stwierdzenia, bez żadnej cenzury.

Bądźmy aktywni, niech nasz głos będzie słyszalny w całym, globalnym ruchu Wikimedia !

New notification when a page is connected to Wikidata

Hello all,

(Sorry for writing in English. It’d be great if someone could translate it if necessary.)

The Wikidata development team is about to deploy a new feature on all Wikivoyages. It is a new type of notification (via Echo, the notification system you see at the top right of your wiki when you are logged in), that will inform the creator of a page, when this page is connected to a Wikidata item.

You may know that Wikidata provides a centralized system for all the interwikilinks. When a new page is created, it should be connected to the corresponding Wikidata item, by modifying this Wikidata item. With this new notification, editors creating pages will be informed when another editor connects this page to Wikidata.

This feature will be deployed on May 9th on all the Wikivoyages. This feature will be disable by default for existing editors, and enabled by default for new editors. This is the first step of the deployments, the Wikipedias and other Wikimedia projects will follow in the next months.

If you have any question, suggestion, please let me know by pinging me. You can also follow and leave a comment on the Phabricator ticket.

Thanks go to Matěj Suchánek who suggested and developed this feature! Cheers, Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk)

The solution for reverting the new annoying hidden Table of Contents in all your banners

As you all probably noticed, last week all the banners on PLvoy were changed - in all of them the Table of Contents is now hidden by default in a very unaesthetic appearance.

The same change occurred in all the Wikivoyage editions that don't have the new banner code (namely, the Dutch Wikivoyage, the Hebrew Wikivoyage, the Swedish Wikivoyage, the Portuguese Wikivoyage, the Polish Wikivoyage, and the Farsi Wikivoyage).

I never managed to figure out what caused this annoying bug... nevertheless, the Dutch Wikivoyage has meanwhile found the solution to this bug, and yesterday both the Hebrew Wikivoyage and Farsi Wikivoyage implemented it on the all our banners, and the problem was reverted as if it never existed!

Add this code to your Mediawiki:Common.css and you should be good

Kierunek Strategiczny ruchu Wikimedia 2030

Wikimania

Hi there. I've just arrived back home from Montreal. Had some nice talks and meetings. One big fan (his whole family) of Wikivoyage visited me at the community village. People like the listing and map features as well. Congratulations to all of you guys. I have three short points to be discussed here in your community. Got two messages on the poster:

  • Please add more links to Wikipedia
  • Please add information about accessibility to your listings as well as information for all disabled people (e. g. blind and deaf travellers)

I talked with Ziko about travelling information for kids on wikivoyage. It's missing on almost every article (at least on WV/de as far as i know).

Besides I have talked with a guy from Wikitongues. Maybe it is a useful feature to add their videos to phrasebooks or country articles. This is an exmple for Texas German -- DerFussi (dyskusja) 09:40, 21 sie 2017 (CEST)[odpowiedz]

Druga wersja "Kierunku strategicznego"

Ponadto będzie on podlegał ocenom w zależności od zmian okoliczności i będzie dostosowany do zmian w otaczającym świecie.

Kto i dlaczego potrzebuje strategii ruchu?

Przede wszystkim strategii potrzebują najbardziej zaangażowani członkowie społeczności, Wikimedia Foundation i organizacje afiliowane. Potrzebują oni bazy, która pomoże im określić priorytety pracy, którą wykonują, aby sprostać wyzwaniom i wykorzystać możliwości, przed którymi stoją Wikimedia. Strategia pomoże członkom społeczności lepiej współpracować i dążyć do naszej wizji.

Dodatkowo zebrano opinie partnerów i darczyńców.

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (dyskusja) 13:44, 15 wrz 2017 (CEST)[odpowiedz]

Please help create Wikipodróże:Kamienie milowe with documentation of PlVoy's main milestones over the years (especially if you are one of the most active editors)

This page exists on the English Wikivoyage and several other Wikivoyage editions.

We at the Hebrew Wikivoyage have recently created and expanded this page in which we have (1) documented, as best as we could, the most important milestones our community achieved over the years in the development of the site (2) added the current most important milestones we are trying to achieve in the development of the Hebrew Wikivoyage in the present.

I noticed that most of the Wikivoyage communities have not created this page yet. If possible, please help create this page on your Wikivoyage edition (especially if you are one of the most active editors in your Wikivoyage edition over the years and are well aware of the main efforts/milestones reached through the years) and help document, as best as we could, the most important milestones achieved in the development of your Wikivoyage edition over the years + add the current most important milestones your Wikivoyage community is trying to achieve in the present.

I am hoping that if each/most of the Wikivoyage communities would do this so that we'll all have a much better understanding about where each community has chosen to focus all of their efforts through the years (and perhaps, in this way, each Wikivoyage community might inspire the rest of the Wikivoyage editor communities to adopt new ideas for new important initiatives on our own edition of Wikivoyage which we haven't even considered so far).

Edit-a-thon "5 years Wikivoyage"

We propose an edit-a-thon dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Wikivoyage launch at the WMF servers that took place on January 15, 2013. At Russian Wikivoyage it will be combined with the celebration of our 5000th article that we expect in early January. In a nutshell, we plan to request central banner on relevant language versions of Wikipedia, and offer small presents to everyone who makes useful edits to Wikivoyage articles during the period of January 16 - February 15, 2018.

We prepared several pages:

  • Landing page that explains the basics of adding new objects and editing the existing ones; how to use Listing Editor and what to write in the description field
  • Getting started, where we explain how to use Wikivoyage (dynamic maps, images, GPX files, offline usage) and what is special about our project; how we are different from other travel guides
  • Rules of the edit-a-thon. The participants will score 1 point for each object added to an article, provided that they add practical information and write a meaningful description based on their first-hand knowledge. Copying information from the web is strongly discouraged.
Every participant who scored more than 10 points, will receive postcards (this is equivalent to the prizes given for the Asian Month in Wikipedia). Those participants who will write at least 2 articles with the usable or guide status will receive printed travel guide for the region of their choice.

These are the rules at Russian Wikivoyage. You should feel free to modify them in your own way, but please, stick to several general guidelines:

  • Prepare the landing page that will include brief instructions on which articles to edit, how to edit them, as well as links to relevant policies and guidelines in your language
  • Provide the text of the central notice in your language
  • Name one person who will be responsible for the communication
  • If you plan to give presents, draft formal rules and find the presents. Our presents are partly funded by Wikimedia Russia and partly by ourselves. Talking to your regional chapter or even writing a rapid grant application may be a good idea. The prizes are not compulsory, but they are likely to increase the number of participants and motivate them to work harder.

Deadline: January 4, 2018. After this date I will initiate the Central Notice request on meta. Without the landing page and other relevant information, I won't be able to include your language into the request, and you won't have the central banner. Włączamy nową przydatną funkcję dla edytujących szablony

Witajcie!

Zużywa to niepotrzebnie transfer i utrudnia debugowanie stylów.

Dobrze by natomiast rzeczywiście było, żeby jakiekolwiek osoby z uprawnieniami do projektu istniały. A request to change Object template

Dear Polish Wikivoyagers,

I've noticed that template "Object" in Polish doesn't have GPS coordinates inside - although English and Russian city templates offer adding "listing"(RU) and "see"(EN) templates on the map, and it looks good (Lublin is a good example). Maybe it worth adding them into your template?

10:04, Nov 9, 2018 (CET)

@Sashabrava Hi! I see you made some changes already. I'm not sure if "listing" is a good name for Polish project (or English too, for what it matters). Some time ago I already started to experiment with new template called Znacznik, which would be mostly to be shown on map. Obiekt was probbaly an old attempt to have some basic common formatting for all items that were objects. Do you think it's important to retain a name similar to what's in other language versions? Katafrakt (dyskusja) 01:56, 28 lis 2018 (CET)[odpowiedz]
@Katafrakt Hi! Sorry for late reply. I am not against renaming the template to sth more understandable for Polish people if it's critical. However, I used "listing" in order to provide similar template for different languages. You can notice that "Listing" title is used for English, French, Russian Wikivoyage and "Listado" - for Spanish. Maybe it's not the best title for template, but it's already quite widespread, and new title can make a mess in the head of other users. If you need to look at template usage statistics, follow a link. 09:45, Feb 24, 2019 (CET)

Re-thinking where to put the focus on - the collaborative creation of the "List of articles every Wikivoyage should have" on Meta

One of the issues with any wiki site is that unless the editor community agrees upon where it is mostly important to put most efforts, usually everyone just improves random articles without knowing what to prioritize... this becomes a bigger issue with the smaller communities where if there are only two or three active editors... they would usually create mostly random stubs that aren’t of much interest to their readers, just because most people wouldn’t know on the top of the head what travel destinations are of most interest to people.

In order to tackle this issue, some wiki sites develop a vital/core article list based on the consensus in that community, which could be used both as a way to focus most efforts where they are most needed (for example, by encouarging the editors to make as many Guide articles and Star articles from all the articles on the core articles list) but also as a way to encourage the other parallel editions of that wiki to create the articles deemed to be the most vital articles as well.

I especially like Wikipedia’s vital articles list... but also Meta’s List of articles every Wikipedia should have.

I think that the existence of such a list, that might even be of use here at the Polish Wikivoyage, would be especially important as it would inspire all the smaller editions of Wikivoyage to make sure that the articles which are of the most interest to their readers are the ones in which most efforts are directed towards + that a priority would be given to improving the quality of the most prominent and sought after articles.

As such I decided to plunge forward and create a draft for this list at Meta. It currently includes exactly 1,000 articles. The list isn't finished! Please help us improve the list by going over it, making note of the articles you think are missing from it, and suggesting them at the discussion page of that page at meta. ויקיג'אנקי (dyskusja) 15:34, 15 cze 2019 (CEST)[odpowiedz]

Powszechne Zasady Postępowania – ruszają konsultacje!

Droga społeczności.

W ciągu kilku najbliższych tygodni Wikimedia Foundation będzie prowadzić konsultacje związane z implementacją Powszechnych Zasad Postępowania (PZP) (ang. Universal Code of Conduct), które będą stanowić załącznik do obecnie obowiązujących Warunków użytkowania (ang. Terms of Use).

Zapraszam do wyrażenia swojej opinii w najwygodniejszy dla Was sposób. Żeby umożliwić każdej chętnej użytkowniczce i każdemu chętnemu użytkownikowi udział w konsultacjach, będą one przeprowadzane na kilka sposobów:

  1. Dyskusja w Kawiarence polskiej Wikipedii pod tym wątkiem oraz ewentualnymi tworzonymi w przyszłości;
  2. Poprzez rozpoczęcie nowego wątku na mojej stronie dyskusji;
  3. Poprzez wysłanie mi prywatnej wiadomość za pomocą wikimaila;

MNadzikiewicz (WMF) (dyskusja) 11:39, 19 sty 2021 (CET)[odpowiedz]
