Barra do Corda is a city of 89,000 people (2021) in central Maranhão.

The carnival is considered one of the biggest in Maranhão, with tourists visiting the city during this period, attracted mainly by the traditional street blocks and spas throughout the city, with emphasis on the Guajajara spa, one of the most frequented due to the meeting of clear and clean waters. The dark shadows of the rivers Mearim and Rio Corda form a spectacle of nature.
