More isms to cover

[edit]

Futurism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and I guess we also have to cover Pop Art, Op Art, Conceptual Art, regardless of what I think of them. I'm probably missing some. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:04, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Art-Déco is a must, and so are the Brutalist architecture, and the Bauhaus-inspired design thing. Wish I had a bigger, more solid vocabulary on art and architecture. Ibaman (talk) 18:16, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
We have to make a decision about whether we are covering architecture in this topic or not. We could restrict the topic to other visual arts (painting, sculpture, photography, etc.). Of course in sculpture, mobiles are a big deal, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:22, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
I tend to think of architecture as something distinct from art and would favor limiting the topic to visual arts. I think video is becoming a recognized art form in itself and perhaps even sound (incorporated into some multi-media exhibits). Sorry to jump in so long after the discussion was active, but its interesting how our notions of contemporary art change over time. Mrkstvns (talk) 20:36, 13 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Don't be sorry! You are right in your remarks. I would maintain that architecture is an art, but architecture is dealt with in a separate article. If we want to restrict this article to covering what I guess we could call volumetric visual arts aside from architecture, what should the article title be? Modern visual arts seems best to me. "Modern"

[edit]

As I understand it, the "modern" period now had a definite end point, sometime in the 1980's ? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:57, 5 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

I don't think "contemporary" has ended. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:06, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Noted, but perhaps it's something for the Understand section? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:54, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sure. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:49, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
