Some people make a living from fishing. For travellers, catching fish is more often recreational.

In most parts of the world, fishing is regulated by law, and totally prohibited at several places. Always ask local authorities about the right to fish.

The Scandinavian right to roam generally allows fishing for free in some waters or by some means. Details vary by country. Fishing permits are usually affordable.
