Ikot Ekpene is in Akwa Ibom State, South South Nigeria.

The town lies along the coastal highway between Calabar and Aba. It is the chief trade centre (yams, cassava [manioc], taro, corn [maize], and palm produce) for a densely populated area known for its export of palm oil and kernels. It is mainly inhabited by the Anang people, who are noted for their cane furniture and basket handicrafts. The population of the local government area was 143,000 in 2006.

The airport is designed to handle larger aircraft operations including Boeing 787 and A380 aircraft. Akwa Imbom offers domestic services to Lagos and Abuja. The airport was renamed in honour of former Akwa Ibom state governor Obong Victor Attah in Nov 2018.

The town is on the A342 highway that parallels the coast, between Calabar to the south east and Aba to the west, with the state capital, Uyo, on this road just to the east. Umuahia is the next major town to the north.
