Although it has been the parish church of the village since the early 19th century, it was built as a monastery of Augustinian canons. It was founded in the year 1080, and its cloister is one of the gems of Catalan Romanesque art. Since the late 20th century, Santa Maria de l'Estany has been a small parish of the Diocese of Vic. The former abbatial dependencies house the museum and the archive, showcasing a collection of objects, some belonging to the monastery and others contributed by the villagers. The archive holds documentation from the 11th century. The former abbatial house now houses the Town Hall of l'Estany. €5.
