Omitlán

Omitlán, also known as Omitlan de Juarez, is a small city in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo. Omitlan is a pleasant small town of over 1000 people (2010), but not particularly noteworthy.

Get in[edit]

From Pachuca, take a taxi to Omitlan. It's only about 18 km (11 mi) and will cost about M$100 (May 2023).

  • La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Refugio (Church of Our Lady of Refuge, Parroquia de la Asuncion), built in 1848, the pink granite facade is unmistakable. Inside is a cleanly designed nave with little of the ornamentation of earlier Mexican churches.
  • Peña del Zumate, rugged rocky terrain, ideal for rock clibing and hiking. Climb the rocks, ascending through a huge crack between the rocks.
  • Bandola Waterfalls, Beautiful waterfall with water tumbling over a boulder-strewn drop of about 30 meters.

  • 2 Entre Peras y Manzanas, Juárez, Centro, +52 771 189 6745. Th-Su 09:00 - 19:00 (closed M Tu W). Comfortable, quiet, buffet restaurant with a good variety of options.

  • 1 Hotel los Arcos, Juárez 2 B, Sección II. Check-in: 15:00, check-out: 12:00. Comfortable rooms but gets lots of negative reviews for having nobody on-site during slow periods (weekdays).
