North East Nigeria is a region of Nigeria that occupies slightly less than one-third of Nigeria's total area and had a projected population for 2011 of 29.6 million, or 13.5% of the country's population. The Fulani are the largest tribe across the region. The Kanuri make up the majority in Borno and Yobe states. The Jukun peoples are found in Taraba state and are also spread across neighbouring states. There are over 100 ethnic groups in the region.
