Personal Hygiene in Brazil and other culture diferences

As a Brazilian I would think it's necessary to made it know that personal hygiene is VERY important here. Brazilians take 1, 2 or 3 baths a day, even in winter, and if you're from a culture that only take 1 or 2 baths a weeks you will be consider a dirty person, and even that you don't get a dirty look, it's possible that people will talk about how smelly you were. Shouldn't it be a tip in this article about that?

Other things: Topless is forbiden, and it's not accepted in any major city - including Rio. Only nudity beachs around the country. The "ok" sign means "fuck yourself" in some places. And, at least if you are not a close friend, it's consider very unpolite to say something bad about Brazil. --186.212.135.192 19:39, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Football

I find this passage a bit bizarre:

Speaking ill of the Brazilian national football team is not considered an insult, but you should never praise the Argentine team or compare them both.

Brazilian-Argentinian rivalry is mostly friendly and tongue-in-cheek and people won't usually mind. In fact many Brazilians would praise good Argentinians players like Messi. --189.70.225.231 14:27, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Favela's

Africans with AK's. Really?

Amazon Region

It would seem better to change North (Brazil) to Amazon (Brazil). It would better match how people actually refer to this region (and probably improve search results). Altaihunters (talk) 03:53, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The region clearly is that of the Amazon and its tributaries. I'd say wait 24 hours, and then if there's no objection, make the change. If you want to be extra careful, post to Requests for comment and see what kind of response you get. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:48, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid I disagree. Our Brazil regional division is based on the official IBGE geographical regions, and in conversations here in Brazil at least, those are the most commonly used, and the region is practically always referred to as Norte (North), rather than "the Amazon". Part of this may be to avoid confusion with the state of Amazonas, and part of it is because the North region is not the only region with parts of the Amazon river basin. All of the state of Mato Grosso, in the Central West region and most of the state of Maranhão, in the Northeast are also considered to be Amazon. See w:Amazônia Legal. Texugo (talk) 10:17, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That clinches it. The designations should remain as is. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:09, 2 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed after I posted this that there was a state called Amazonas. We also have a extra-regional page Amazonia that covers all the different regions of the Amazon across the different regions. Altaihunters (talk) 02:06, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bolsonaro

This article surely needs some updates in view of the election of Bolsonaro. There should presumably be warnings for LGBT travellers, for example. Can anyone on the ground in Brazil post appropriately-worded updates in "Understand" and "Stay safe", just as strong as necessary and not stronger? Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:35, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just changed this accordingly. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 01:49, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Has anything actually changed for LGBT travellers? I understand the concern, just not sure if there is or there will be an impact? Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:27, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I said "presumably". I don't know. Ibaman, if you think any update is appropriate, please add one. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:41, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I think it's too early to be sure about this situation and the proper wording for warnings. He says things and goes back on them the next day. It's a very uncertain period. I'll keep vigilant. Ibaman (talk) 12:15, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's good. And I wish you the best in this period. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:37, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AM/PM or 24 hr?

Just to know and make it understood for the future, we should decide what to use regarding times, AM/PM or 24 hr. Cheers Ceever (talk) 18:23, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • For the record, we use 24 hr format down here. I happen to be an admin at pt:wv as well, and its consensus has long been the 24h format (i.e., 2:30 PM becomes 14h30). Ibaman (talk) 19:17, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a proposal related to this discussion at Wikivoyage_talk:Time_and_date_formats#Keeping_track_of_which_clock_to_use_in_each_country. Comments welcome. Ground Zero (talk) 13:31, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Truckers

Should we have a cautionbox for the truckers? I hear Bolsonaro-supporting truck drivers have caused road blockages all over the country. @Ibaman: how is this situation in Brazil? Does it merit a caution or warning? --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 18:19, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

City list

@Ibaman: Since you're Brazilian, I was wondering if Florianópolis should be on the list. I'd think Belo Horizonte should be featured instead since it's a better known city. The dog2 (talk) 23:29, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

oh well, BH is surely bigger, but not as touristically enjoyable as Floripa, IMHO. The choice makes sense here. Ibaman (talk) 17:02, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
