Um, what on earth is this? Is it supposed to cover how to get yourself hired as crew on somebody else's ship...? (WT-en) Jpatokal 06:56, 31 Jan 2006 (EST)

Ohhh... I think you might be right. There is (was) an article about travelling by freighter somewhere... seems like they should be merged... -- (WT-en) Ilkirk 14:05, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)
It's common for owners of private sailboats who are making long trips to need crew -- when you need somebody on watch 24/7, you need a bunch of people helping out. Freighter travel is mostly about being a paying passenger on a freighter, which is supposed to be a cheap, slow way to travel. This is different in that one generally needs actual sailing skills, and one is expected to work for passage -- though it still might not be free. I don't think it can be merged. Maybe it could be made a travel topic with pointers to places where crew requests are placed (both online and in print). But I'm not experienced enough in the subject to write about it, and a mere list of websites doesn't cut it for me. -- (WT-en) Colin 14:23, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)
So I've always wanted to crew and I'd love to see a good article on the topic here, but I dont think a list of links is the best way to star so I'm moving them here for data mining. AFAIK the best way to get 'hired on' is to mooch aroung major marinas... usually you have to buy your own food and chip in for fuel but there are many variations... anyway I'll try and start a stub (WT-en) Majnoona 15:31, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)
Also moved to "crewing" could prolly be more specific ("crewing sailboats"? "crewing private boats"?) but it's at least better than "boats" (WT-en) Majnoona 15:34, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)

re: data mining, I have deleted that list of links, as it was hitting the spam filter. I also think having these data mining sections is not a great idea, as they just wind up attracting more linkspam. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 16:03, 30 April 2009 (EDT)
