What is a fjord?[edit]

The answer is less than obvious. From the traveler's perspective the way it looks is perhaps key, and Geirangerfjord or Sognefjord are perhaps prototypes. Geologists emphasize the geological process then Oslofjord is not a real fjord (basically a graben) whereas nextdoor Drammensfjord is. And fjord-lakes are geologically fjords, except they are not salt. Many real fjords do not have the steep sides that are frequent in western Norway.
