Safety warnings: The government is actively trying to promote this as a tourist destination, but it is one the very edge of gov. Controlled territory. I've received advice from the tourism center that UXO and landmines have been planted in the forests north of the lake. West of the lake there are a number of illegal mines they seem to believe all tourists will go with a guide and so I believe a strong caution is required. Two German tourists were killed by an unmarked landmine last year in north shan.
I still wrote this place up because it's fantastic and could develop rapidly, and because irresponsible growth of the tourism industry is a risk. --Billbarrelrider (talk) 09:38, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
