Experience of going to a concert

I think it's important for travellers to know what to expect if they'd like to go to a classical concert in South Asia. My understanding is that concerts tend to be long (maybe 3 hours, sometimes more), but that people can buy food and beverages and eat them in the concert hall. Would anyone who's had the experience of going to many classical concerts in South Asia like to talk about the experience and expected audience behavior at concerts?
