So Madeira is an archepelo with two islands, Porto Santo and Madeira. Am I crazy for wanting to have just one page for the two islands (both pretty small) and then just link to city articles to cover the specifics? I just can think of what would be on the Madeira(island) article that wouldn't be on the Madeira(archeplo) article, same with Porto Santo... we can always spilt them up if there turns out to be a whole bunch of details I'm missing... No, that sounds like a good idea. (P.S. "Archipelago"). --(WT-en) Evan 17:35, 14 Jan 2004 (EST)

External links[edit]

Not sure if either http://www.madeiraislands.travel/ or http://www.madeirahelp.com/ is MoS.

Either way, the article is badly in need of content, not extlinks. -- (WT-en) Colin 10:10, 8 Feb 2005 (EST)

Guys, I may contribute, but I am from Madeira(living in the USA), so it might be a little biased!!!..hehe DO you care?

Picture[edit]

The picture (from Faial) is not in Madeira but in the Azores archipelago

Are you sure? There is a Faial in both archipelagos, and I thought it looks a lot like Madeira. Anyway, if you are sure, please go ahead and remove the photo from the article. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 13:07, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
Actually, having looked into this further, it seems almost certain that the image on this page is from Madeira, not the Azores. The pictures on Flickr seem to depict the same place [1]. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 13:13, 17 July 2009 (EDT)

I think it is Madeira, but definetly NOT faial. It looks like Serra D'Agua...(this last comment by Agostinho)

Work[edit]

Have visited only once. However, content for Work (and its link) reflects only the advantages of setting up a business there...with text much like that from a Chamber of Commerce. It offers virtually nothing about requirements for working there or the availability jobs. Someone more qualified than I needs to improve this. Hennejohn (talk) 18:02, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Categorize with Portugal?[edit]

Madeira is part of Portugal politically and culturally, has the same immigration system as Portugal, and is within reasonable distance from mainland Portugal. Therefore it should be categorized as a region of Portugal, instead of "Islands of the Atlantic Ocean".

Compare Azores, Canary Islands, and Easter Island. /Yvwv (talk) 09:30, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Azores are further out, so since they're breadcrumbed to Portugal, unless anyone wants to change that (back?), this is a no-brainer. But I think we should wait 24 hours in case someone has some objection. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:59, 28 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alternative page banners[edit]

Current banner
WLE 2017 — № 41
WLE 2017 — № 42
WLE 2017 — № 43
WLE 2017 — № 44
WLE 2017 — № 47

We have got new page banners of Madeira from the Wiki Loves Earth banner competition and discuss the replacement, because Portuguese ceramics shown in the current banner has no obvious connection to the island. It could be seen all over Portugal. You can join our discussion or add your opinion here. --Alexander (talk) 15:51, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would prefer any of those before the current banner. My favorite is number 47. There is a banner discussion on Talk:Portugal as well. /Yvwv (talk) 14:11, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
