Learn[edit]

The Learn section is for listing things a traveller might do when passing through. The following do not qualify unless they offer short courses or seminars travellers might attend without becoming a student, so I have removed this from the article:

Nottingham has two major universities:
  • University of Nottingham. A traditional, Russell group university offering everything one might expect including medicine, law, engineering and a recently opened veterinary school. Graduates from Nottingham are well respected and it has an excellent research reputation in more or less anything it touches.
  • Nottingham Trent University. While technically a "new university", Trent punches well above its weight. Strengths include journalism, law, biosciences and perhaps the best school of education in the East Midlands. Graduates of Nottingham Trent are the most employed in the country, with over 90% of graduates landing in their preferred career within 6 months of graduation.

Eastwood Hall?[edit]

[1], I noticed the Principal Hayley hotel Eastwood Hall is not listed, can we have it listed? Send me a message if you require any details not public on the website VerbInteractive (talk) 19:30, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Nottinghamshire is very poorly covered on Wikivoyage. If you could crate a page and write something about Eastwood as well as add a listing for the hotel, that would be great. --Traveler100 (talk) 19:56, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately I can't add the hotel as I represent the hotel. see: [2] VerbInteractive (talk) 20:05, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, and yet I think you can. Here's how: Post the wording of your proposed listing here. If we're satisfied that it's phrased in such a way as not to tout but to serve the traveller by giving a good description, you can go ahead and write something about Eastwood in addition to posting the listing, as Traveler100 suggests above. The only thing I know about Eastwood is that is where D.H. Lawrence was born. It has been a long time since I visited the place, cannot remember anything of note to see. --Traveler100 (talk) 20:57, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Proposed listing for Eastwood
Let me know if you folks feel this will work.

1 Eastwood Hall, Eastwood Hall, Mansfield Road, +44 (0)1773 532 532, fax: +44 (0)1773 532 533, . Located just a short drive away from the historic city of Nottingham and easily accessible from the M1. 26 acres of spectacular grounds, combines the beauty of a period property with every modern convenience.

As I also pointed out on my talk page, quotes from the hotel websites (like this listing you proposed) or other advertisements cannot be used, both because of the flowery promotional language they typically use and for copyright reasons. Creating listings with new wording may take a bit more time than simply copying pre-made text, but it's the only way to go. Have a look at the example here, and at Wikivoyage:Words to avoid. JuliasTravels (talk) 20:28, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Further to JuliasTravels' points, descriptions of hotels need to describe the hotel itself and not the area beyond its grounds. The grounds can and should indeed be described (though in a more specific way than "spectacular"). Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:51, 16 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback folks, I'll give this another try later today VerbInteractive (talk) 13:43, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
One more try, let me know what you folks think,

2 Eastwood Hall, Eastwood Hall, Mansfield Road, +44 (0)1773 532 532, fax: +44 (0)1773 532 533, . Eastwood Hall is a hotel and event venue offering 150 bedrooms and 36 meeting/event rooms, all connected to Wi-Fi. Bedroom daily rates start from £69.

Excellent. I'll post this, minus the name in the "content" tab, where we normally omit it. But before I do: Is this a Mid-range or Splurge accommodation? Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:55, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Splurge please VerbInteractive (talk) 18:08, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:54, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
