Towns

Radical changes needed[edit]

This article needs more fixes as I saw many problems like long lists of "See", "Do", and "Sleep" listings that should be better placed in their respective articles. I also considering cleaning up the "Municipalities" and change it to "Other destinations" (many municipalities better correspond to Cities), and dividing this province to subregions, where all the less important towns can be better covered as breadcrumbs. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 15:24, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ground Zero:, @Ikan Kekek:, @Pashley: Any ideas to fix this up? The article is all messy and badly written; listings here are better moved to their respective cities and replaced with an overview. TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 23:18, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely: the long list of things to see, etc., with no explanation or comment can probably just be removed. It does no good. Ground Zero (talk) 01:07, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see that this problem was not resolved. I'll move some long lists here later today. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:34, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Long lists from "See", "Eat" and "Sleep" moved here below. For the time being, I have left "Do" and "Buy" alone, but both sections also need some edits.

Classes of municipalities[edit]

"X is a first class municipality"; "Y is a third class municipality"....Does that mean that X has plush seating? Non-Filipino readers will have no idea what this means, I doubt it's important, and I suggest deleting such minutiae, but I'd love to see a counterargument. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:33, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ikan Kekek: Agree we should be removing that as completely administrative terminology relating to their local revenues. The ledes of articles about Philippine municipalities should normally start with "X is a town/rural municipality/suburb/city/etc.", depending on how travelers would think about the location in question.--TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 20:58, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@TagaSanPedroAko: Speaking of rural municipalities, are there any "rural area" articles about places in the Philippines? If so, there is a new rural area article type that might apply. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:44, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and I've created rural area articles to cover towns or municipalities that are too small to be covered in a single article (e.g. Southwest Pampanga). I'm fine with using "rural municipality" for places designated as such where listings are scattered beyond the town center, but I'm open with using rural area as well.
Rural area is just the technical name used in the template, so it's definitely acceptable (and encouraged, if it's local terminology) to use "rural municipality" otherwise. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 21:58, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
TagaSanPedroAko, if you'd like to change the descriptions of the municipalities in the "Cities" section, I'd be much obliged to you, because I'm not personally familiar with them, so I wouldn't know what the best descriptions would be.

Copyright violations in Pangasinan[edit]

Swept in from the pub

A number of new users seem to be creating articles in the Pangasinan region with text entirely copied from various sources. With so much copied text, I don't see how these articles can be edited over time without being 'fruit of the poisoned tree' (to contort a phrase), so my instinct is to propose all for deletion.

What is the preferred way to tackle these? Copyright violations of text content does not seem to fall in the listed criteria for speedy deletion. Nominating every page for a discussion on deletion seems excessive given the clear case, but I'm happy to do it if that's considered proper.

Copyright violations are a reason for speedy deletion; these may have to be nuked given the nature of these copyvios. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 13:02, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done – I deleted all except Bolinao, where I reverted it to its last copyvio-free revision. I've also given all users warnings. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 13:14, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're quick; thank you! Gregsmi11 (talk) 13:24, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was definitely another reason for me to stay up until 23:00 :-). --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 21:42, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Copied text just keeps popping up in this region. I've removed text from Manaoag and Mangaldan, and left messages for @DimasalangPH. Now there's new text at Natividad, Mapandan which I've left in place for now and tagged; maybe it'll get noticed this time. Gregsmi11 (talk) 15:17, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry to say this, but what kind of terrible article is Pangasinan? How can a small region have so many city listings? ... WV is not suppposed to be a database to list each and every city!
Also, many city articles say "Known for its agricultural products, including vegetables and rice" or similar or Balungao Hilltop Adventure (touting) ... wtf cares about rice? Probably the whole region can be classified like this.
Could we at least remove the listings that have no or bare articles and no tourist relevant mentions?

Yes, I think you should go ahead and do that. Ground Zero (talk) 15:06, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
