Founding of Islam[edit]

Muslims believe Islam started with Adam, the first prophet, so I'd suggest a different phrasing, such as "the proclamation of Islam by the Prophet Muhammad". Best to be sensitive to Islamic core beliefs when writing about Arabia, in my opinion. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:38, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

And just to add, this is an interesting article already. Madain Saleh should be added. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:41, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. In my skeptical eyes, Muhammad's linking of his divine "revelations" to older elements of established religion was a stroke of genius that helped to legitimise his words from the start. In ad speak, he had a compelling story to tell that partly validated what people already believed.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 08:51, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, that is the non-believer's point of view. But when you consider that the word Islam means "submission to God", it stands to reason that any true prophet would be by definition a Muslim, regardless of whether they were Jewish or whatever. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:02, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's a good point, and ripe for a philosophical debate.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:29, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I made the change. Ikan Kekek (talk) 12:06, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Geographically or ethnically defined?[edit]

The geographic scope of this article appears to extend some distance north of Arabia, but the only spot in Israel/Palestine that's covered is Avdat. No Jerusalem, no Jericho, no Samaria, no Caesaria. What scope would we like to define for this article? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:39, 19 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Any thoughts, anyone? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:53, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
