Drink[edit]

Comment about "Self-induced injuries" is an interesting opinion; may not fit wikivoyage factual accuracy, though.

Cities[edit]

I've swapped in Alexandria and Arlington for Fairfax and Front Royal. Fairfax is almost certainly a less known destination than either of the two, and Front Royal was added by a persistent tout who does business there. --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:05, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

Definition of Northern Virgina[edit]

The map on this article has a significantly larger definition of Northern Virgina then the map on the Northern Virgina article. What's going on here? Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 19:39, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that too and came here to post about it. I would tend to trust the opinion of the user who made the Northern Virginia map, though unfortunately he is no longer around to join this conversation. Texugo (talk) 13:29, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note about cities[edit]

The "Cities" section starts off by saying "Note: "City" is used here in a broad sense. Virginia draws a very sharp distinction between cities and other communities. Since 1871, all communities incorporated as cities are legally separate from counties."

Do we need that note? The law distinguishes between incorporated cities, incorporated towns, and unincorporated areas. Virginia's not unusual in that respect, that's the way it works all across America. The only thing unusual about incorporated cities in Virginia is that they're legally independent of the county (in other words, county law doesn't apply, only city law does). Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 18:37, 5 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(A) No, it's trivia, as far as most travelers are concerned; (B) 11 "Cities" are listed, but no more than 9 should be, per 7+2. Here's the existing list:
Which 2 should be removed? I'm no expert on Virginia, but I'd say these cannot be removed:
Richmond, Arlington, Charlottesville, Norfolk, Williamsburg.
After that, Roanoke probably should be kept, but I'm not really sure after that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:39, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest removing Bristol and Lynchburg. Also, remove the silly, trivial note. Mrkstvns (talk) 12:38, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's over 2 years since the previous comment on this, so I'd suggest you just take the action you consider best. If you don't, I'll try to remember to do it, myself, later. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:53, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Mrkstvns (talk) 15:08, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"See" and "Do" format[edit]

I just moved a bunch of "See" listings from "Do", but the formatting is not correct. We should avoid using listing templates (bullets are OK) and use prose descriptions. Also, this is no place to link attractions' URLs; instead, we should link the city articles where each attraction is located. I'm posting this here because I don't have time to deal with this right now, but in all likelihood, I'll get to this eventually if no-one else chooses to fix it first. Changing region layout[edit]

Heres an idea, Maybe we can change the region layout according to what the 4th grade Virginia Studies course is teaching, Coastal Plain, Peidmont, Blue Ridge Mountains, Valley and Ridge, Appalachian Plateau. Someonehere12345 (talk) 22:15, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How would that be most useful to travelers? Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:11, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Page banner[edit]

Um, has anyone noticed that the page banner for the stare of Virginia is a cemetery? I get that Arlington Cemetery is important to Americans, but surely there is some other image that is not a cemetery that would appeal to both American and non-American readers.
