Template:CanberraCycleRoutes[edit]

Swept in from the pub

I created this template to add on routeboxes of several Canberra districts. It uses {{RbE}} which is used on {{rint}} to produce the icons, so not too unusual in terms of template layout. Any objections before I add the route markers on several Canberra articles? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:40, 8 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

No objections from me. I do wonder though, would it not be better to scale this up for all of Australia, AUS + NZL or even Oceania? Sticking solely to Canberra would set a precedent that's likely to lead to template spam. Besides, with route systems that are somewhat integrated with one another it'd save editors having to remember a handful of different templates... Wauteurz (talk) 10:29, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I can see where you're coming from, but AFAIA, no other city in Oceania other than Canberra has a cycle network with route numbers or an integrated network for that matter (meaning that cycle paths just have generic names). I guess it would work for places like the Netherlands or Denmark, but I'm not familiar with those bike systems. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 10:40, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's exactly where my thoughts were, yeah. Speaking for the Benelux alone, there's LF-icon routes, numbered LF-routes, cycle highways, RAVeL, many on a more regional level, and then thousands of possible combinations at the lowest level because of the "fietsknooppunten" which you connect with one another to make your own route.
Anyway, should in future more routes like these appear down under, I'd suggest merging it all into a single template like RINT, but I understand that this is as centralised as it can be at this time, which isn't a problem at all :) Wauteurz (talk) 11:02, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
