Tulln an der Donau is a city in Lower Austria. Because of its abundance of parks and gardens, Tulln is often referred to as Blumenstadt ("City of Flowers"). Tulln is one of the oldest towns in Austria.
Understand
[edit]In 2018, it was home to 16,000 people.
Tulln is one of the oldest towns in Austria. Although it was settled in pre-Roman times (the name Tulln is presumably of Celtic origin), it gained importance as the Roman fort of Comagena (Comagenis). In the final years of Roman rule, Saint Severinus of Noricum is said to have visited the city, saving it from the barbarians.
Get in
[edit]Tulln is about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Vienna, and has two train stations:
S40 and other regional train makes Tulln easily reachable from St. Pölten and Vienna. With as many as two trains per hour on workdays, S40 is a good choice if you want to hop on in Klosterneuburg and small towns on the way. Regional Express (REX) trains are less frequent, but faster, since they don't stop at small stations. The Danube river is within visible range on a major part of the route from Vienna.
Get around
[edit]Unlike mega-cities such as Vienna, Tulln is very suitable for walking and biking. A alternative method is taking the bus 440.
