About me
Hello there! I'm Ed Erhart, but you may know me better as The ed17, the username I've held since 2006.
When I'm not working, I am an administrator on the English Wikipedia, where I have written 27 "featured" articles, with most focusing on warships from a plethora of countries in the early twentieth century. I was also the editor-in-chief of the Signpost, a community news journal about Wikimedia and its projects. (The consensus for gaining those administrator tools was determined well before and independent of my role at the Foundation, and I will use them only in my personal volunteer capacity.)
Edits from with this account are made as part of my employment, while edits from my volunteer account are not. That being said, accidental cross-pollination between the two has and will occur occasionally. Such mistakes will be promptly corrected in a subsequent edit with an appropriate edit summary.
My work
I have been a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's Communications department in 2015. For my first few years, I was primarily engaged in writing for and editing the Wikimedia Foundation's blog. My bylined work there includes many interviews with Wikimedia editors, which have helped to humanize the movement to the public and get to the core of what motivates editors. Currently, I'm working with digital media as part of the Foundation's External Communications team.
