Welcome to Wikivoyage! Thanks for your contribution to Bangkok, I've edited it down a little. Any input you could provide to Bangkok/Silom would also be very welcome as I've tended to stick to the other side of Soi 4... (WT-en) Jpatokal 21:54, 26 Jan 2005 (EST)

Hello Adam Carr!

Here is the formal Welcome to Wikivoyage. Just so you have the links everyone else gets.

Please take a sec to look at our copyleft and policies and guidelines, but feel free to plunge forward and edit some pages. Scanning the Manual of style, especially the article templates, can give you a good idea of how we like articles formatted. If you need help, check out Project:Help, and if you need some info not on there, post a message in the travellers' pub.

Thanks for contributing to Bangkok and joining in the discussion on Project:Sex tourism policy. While we appreciate free and frank discussion, unfortunately, on this subject, there are certain countries that have rather draconian laws about making this sort of information available in a travel context. While the intent is to discourage a specific sort of tourist, the side effect is that information about the wider subject needs to be carefully approached so that these laws are not breached. In Australia, some relevant legislation is Part IIIA to Australia's Crimes Act. In New Zealand, for example, the law goes further and makes it an offence for anyone, (yes anyone, anywhere) to provide information for travellers on the subject! It is not Wikivoyage limiting your free speech; it is the law in some countries where Wikivoyage gets read. By being frank and honest in a travel article you could find yourself breaking the law in the country of someone who reads what you write. Sounds stupid, I know, but this is how the law is written. Perhaps you should raise the matter with the Member of Parliament that you advise. After all Australia has a law that says the Internet get published where it get read... -- (WT-en) Huttite 07:13, 27 Jan 2005 (EST)

Re your edits to Bangkok and deleting them, unfortunately (?) your contributions ceased to be "yours" the moment you hit Submit; they're now licensed under cc-sa to Wikivoyage for further use, and you cannot withdraw the license. This means your content can be edited at will.
But that's the way Wikis work. I would suggest, and or rather ask, that you hang in there and help me and like-minded people overturn the excessive puritanism of the Sex tourism policy, which is not canon despite the opinions of Colin and his ilk. (WT-en) Jpatokal 05:38, 28 Jan 2005 (EST)
