Yazd is a province in Central Iran; Yazd, an ancient oasis city that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the capital.

The city of Yazd has over half a million people, roughly half the population of the province. It is situated at an oasis where Dasht-e Kavir and the Dasht-e Lut deserts meet.

You can fly to Shahid Sadooghi International Airport (AZD IATA), near the city of Yazd. There are also trains.

Travellers on today's version of the Istanbul to New Delhi overland route pass through Yazd as they swing south from central Iran, avoiding Afghanistan and heading for Zahedan and the border with Pakistan. There are several roads; the most used comes from Isfahan.
