User:Pashley, is there any particular reason why this is an "extraregion". Is it a "region" which crosses two or more other regions? Shouldn't it be classified as a city article, since it's basically a single point and not a region? Texugo (talk) 13:12, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
No particular reason. It does not cross other regions, though as a pass it is more of a line than a point. A redirect to either Quetta or Balochistan is possible, but not ideal. If we had an article for Quetta district, a redirect there would make sense.
User:Saqib: Any comment? Pashley (talk) 15:31, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it's merit an article on its own. Lets redirect it to Quetta. --Saqib (talk) 15:49, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I wasn't actually suggesting we redirect or anything, just confirming that this is meant to represent the singular location rather than an actual region. I was suggesting changing it to a city template tag (like we do for small islands and other singular locations). If this is not worth having an article, a redirect is fine, of course, but I was just about to ask the same question about Khyber Pass - shouldn't that one get a city template too? Both are mountain passes and we don't usually have articles on mountain passes. There're plenty of passes all over the world, but we don't usually have articles on them but if we do have then they should be itineraries. On the other hand, Bolan Pass is closed I guess and there's no accommodation along the pass. I think we've to discuss and convert Khyber Pass into an itinerary. --Saqib (talk) 15:56, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
First topic at User_talk:Pashley/Archive is an old discussion of this.
I'd say Khyber Pass must be either a region or an itinerary; it does not make sense as a "city" since it contains places like w:Ganadamak and Landi Kotal. I prefer region because, unlike say Yellowhead Highway or Karakoram Highway, I don't think anyone considers the Khyber a journey in itself. Definitely a key transition, like crossing the Bosphorous, but not a trip in itself. Pashley (talk) 16:21, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
It sounds like that's a gray area. If Ganadamak and Landi Kotal may someday have articles, it should definitely be a region. However, if it's such that are little villages which are likely to forever be covered collectively here, recent precedent with articles covering tiny villages/settlements collectively would suggest that it should still be classified as a city article, even though it's technically not a city itself. Safety

[edit]

The Stay safe section currently reads:

This area, as of mid-2012, is definitely not safe. Even with armed guards, travel is not recommended.

Has anyone got up-to-date information? Pashley (talk) 11:20, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
