Birthplace of Batukeshwar Dutt, Onari

South Damodar is a rural area south of the Damodar River, in the Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal. It consists of Khandaghosh, Raina I and Raina II community development blocks of Purba Bardhaman district. It is known as the birthplace of several stalwarts, including Indian revolutionaries like Rash Behari Bose and Batukeshwar Dutt.

By car or bus

NH 116A runs over this area north-south as Bardhaman–Arambagh Road. Numerous Arambagh and Bankura-bound buses from Bardhaman ply over this area.

By train

There are regular MEMU local trains between Bankura and Masagram and the route runs over this area. If you are arriving from Bardhaman or Howrah via Chord line, you have to change the train at Masagram. 1 Seharabazar  SER  Seharabazar railway station on Wikipedia acts as an interchange between train and bus in this area. There's an unnamed station on the route with blank signs, which serves the villages of Raina and Rainagar, and is known as "Rainagar" in maps and tickets.

  • 1 Birthplace of Batukeshwar Dutt, Onari, Khandaghosh. Batukeshwar Dutt (1910–1965) was a revolutionary and one of the four people associated with the 1929 Lahore bombing case, the other three were Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru.
