Big Water is a tiny town in Utah's Canyon Country, not far north of Page, Arizona.

Understand

[edit]

Smack dab in the middle of nowhere, Big Water has made the national news on a couple occasions. First and foremost, it has been known as a Mormon fundamentalist enclave, where deceased mayor Alex Joseph was survived by seven wives, all of whom entered into marriage with him consensually, and fourteen children. Second, Mayor Joseph made headlines once more in 1986, leaving the Republican Party to become America's first Libertarian mayor, and abolished real estate taxes in the town.

Owing to its location, Big Water can be a serviceable, if unorthodox, base to explore Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, The Coyote Buttes, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and even the Grand Canyon.
